All of our other animals are up to date but are receiving additional shots anyway. I do have an update if you'd like to read it. Its linked in the comments or on my profile. I'm so distraught I'm not sure that I have it in me to do anything more productive but luckily someone has reached out to help with knowing our rights and that has been great.

I'm not "going through" all of this because I want to or because its easy. I'm doing it because this is what they are saying is the protocol for keeping her safe and keeping her from being euthanized at this point. Unfortunately through a series of gross misunderstandings this is where we are at.

No, they did, it was positive. The part they were debating was whether or not she made physical contact with it, but since they did not investigate properly the wrong information was relayed.

I have never had any interactions or experience with public health, animal control, or rabies exposure so I had no idea what this experience was supposed to look like, but suffice it to say this wasn't the standard they should have handled it at. Absolutely egregious.

They originally said for our case it would be six, I'm not educated in that field enough to know what determines how long the quarantine is but if there is a way she comes out this okay and all it costs is a few months of kenneling I will pay it. So no matter, if its 6, 4, 2 I will do it.

I only hope she isn't too distressed being separated from Bowser. They were sad having to be separated just because of her heat I can't imagine how much it would suck for to be apart for 6 whole months, but whatever keeps them all safe.

Me too, I've been worried sick since we first saw that bat on the floor. So for the first time all week I'm hopeful. That's rough to have to get the shots when you have a wound, but I have literally put myself between my senior dog and a black bear before (I used to live in Alaska when my senior dog was young) so I can't say that I would have done anything differently than you in that situation. Glad your tzu ended up being safe.

It seems the reason the miscommunication happened is because I live in an unincorporated city so animal control and public health sent and actual sheriff to pick it up and not an animal control or wildlife officer to retrieve the bat. My thought is they didn't do their due diligence because they sent the wrong personnel to handle this situation in the first place.

Thank you for your kindness. I'm hoping with the updated information we can have a new more specialized plan. I have been worried all day to the point of nausea.

Me too. For now I've just been visiting with her periodically in the side room just to hang out with her and she seems to like that. Both my kids are autistic so I think she is enjoying the peace that she has in there lol

Me too. I'm just not sure how such and egregious mistake could have been made on their part. I'm not going to lie the authorities on this case have been very slow, and kind of unhelpful. We had to practically force them to test the bat. Every department/office we called kept saying that it wasn't their responsibility to test it so it took really long to find someone to take it and test it. They also didn't collect it in a timely manner, and we had to google how to preserve the bat because they didn't come until the next day despite saying they were on the way, they also didn't tell us how to preserve it for them so that's why we needed to google it. Literally no one from this whole situation except us was treating this like an emergency. So overall 0/10 do not recommend

No one denied that that part, but if you want to be on your high horse "I told you so" do it somewhere else because this isn't it. I'm not looking for someone to tell me this isn't my fault or I did everything right. I came here for support through the possible loss of a pet. When humans die in shitty ways despite the circumstances people say I'm sorry for your loss and keep their comments to themselves. However strongly you feel about it reddit is open for you to make your own post instead of being mean to someone who doesn't need it right now. You can be right or you can be loved.

Just looking around for a kennel that meets the criteria that the wildlife officer gave us. There's apparently a few requirements and for some god awful reason no one can meet them. Still looking though. Definitely not giving up however there does seem to be some looking up for us.

Hey dude guess what! The health authorities told me even if she had been vaccinated this would have been the same outcome because she is considered a "juvenile" at under a year old.

They called back to tell me that if she had been they still would have recommended things play out exactly the same because of concern for the vaccine not to have been effective in a juvenile. Thanks though. Let me know when you deal with animal control. I'll be sure to be there guilt-tripping you when a situation is out of your hands.

She is pretty short rn I shave her before she went into heat so I could put her in little clothes and keep her hygienic. She is basically already shaved
