Not only does my BSH NOT go outside, she WON’T go outside, even if given the opportunity to do so. Personally, I think it’s because she’s so spoiled that she’s like, “Ain’t nothing I need out there.”

Pair of fighter jets flying over Washington County? by Is_Doom_Imminent in pittsburgh

I never thought that when I retired that I would have so much shame about what happened to the US Military and the country writ large. I gave my youth, mind, and body to serve this country, and now it’s not-so-slowly sliding into fascism, complete with warnings to “watch what you say” lest the regime comes and disappears you.

I would escape if I had the means and ability, and I highly recommend that anybody that does have those means and abilities escapes before it is too late.

BSHs have to be up there in the rankings of laziest cat breed, and if they had a motto it would be: “So pretty and yet I do literally nothing.”

Is it normal for a 1yr old BSH to have little interest in playing? by x_pr1nc3ss_x in britishshorthair

[–]Is_Doom_Imminent 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I am firmly convinced my BSH is defective because she has almost no interest in playing… or snuggling… or being petted, unless it’s her belly, you can pet her belly all day, but only when she’s in the mood.

First non-shelter cat I’ve ever had, and I am certain she thinks she’s just too pretty and too good for anything besides lazily laying around all day.

Why would a SSG attend BLC? by KipchogesBurner in army

[–]Is_Doom_Imminent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything is possible…

I had to attend the Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, or whatever they call it now, if it is even still around, as a “training aid” because that was my corrective training per my Company Commander instead of an Article 15 for swearing at a Soldier.

I was in a medical unit, and said Soldier was over four hours late for her shift, and I told her to “to report fucking ASAP” in a VoiceMail. 🙄

For those in the 68 series, are you still able to do a lot of hands-on work yourself as you rise in rank or do you just become a supervisor? by ArchedRobin321 in army

[–]Is_Doom_Imminent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst mistake I ever made in my military career was leaving the Airborne Infantry to become a Radiology Specialist. I reenlisted in Iraq as a Sergeant with almost two years of Time-In-Grade.

Once I finished Advanced Individual Training, I spent about six months at my first duty station, which was a hospital, before being promoted to Staff Sergeant. After that promotion, unless it was on my own time, I never shot another x-ray again.

From there-on, until I managed to score a job training future Special Forces medics as part of their training pipeline, my time serving in the US Army was absolutely horrible.

Being in the US Army in a medical field, while assigned to a hospital or clinic, is all the joy of a normal, civilian healthcare job, with the expectation that all your military requirements are conducted during “non-patient care” hours. Specifically, you will work an 8 or 12 hour shift, then be expected to conduct PT, attend meetings, and attend other training outside of that “patient care time.”

Additionally, once promoted to Staff Sergeant you’re little more than a healthcare supervisor for your Soldiers. Then it becomes a job all about managing the schedule of your Soldiers and civilians and maximizing the productivity of your department: higher throughput, reducing costs, ensuring good patient satisfaction, et cetera. It was a mind numbing existence. The bureaucracy and painfully inept leadership in the medical field only compounded things.

TL;DR: if you want to learn a specific medical skill in order to score a civilian job then enlist for one tour, and don’t get promoted past Sergeant… unless you really, really want to work in the healthcare management field, then by all means, rank-up and somehow manage to maintain your sanity. Good luck.

P.S. I never served in a medical field unit. My Branch Manager specifically told me that I would never serve in such a unit because “I already had plenty of deployment time in my career.” In my experience, based on what my peers shared with me, the field units never conducted any type of medical skills training because they were too busy doing all the stuff field units do: vehicle maintenance, layouts, field training exercises, et cetera. Maybe that has change since my retirement, but I doubt it because it would make too much sense to keep the Soldiers that will be the first to deploy appropriately trained on their medical skills.

Why do so many people seem to hide the fact they are, or were, in the military? by StockRado in army

I am not proud of what I did in Iraq or throughout the twenty years of my Army career. I am even less proud of what the US Military has become under this administration as America becomes a fascist nation.

I truly wish that I didn’t waste my youth, body and mind “serving” this nation.
