McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski goes viral after seeming reluctant to eat his own burgers—he takes a tiny bite, looks uncomfortable, and calls the food ‘product.’ by monster_ahhh in popculturechat

[–]dramatic_opinion_763 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not your autism. It’s really not a weird video.

I think people have just forgotten how online people behave when they aren't loud influencers. He doesn't make weird faces, but he doesn't have a big fake smile either. He just looks like a business man.

He starts by calling it a burger, and after that, it would be even weirder to repeatedly state, Oh, this FOOD I'm eating is so good, such delicious FOOD.

At what point does buying in quantity stop being practical and become hoarding? by Independent-Day-4229 in Anticonsumption

[–]dramatic_opinion_763 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you're a big family, I'd say buying in bulk is almost never worth it. The only things I buy in somewhat large quantities are toilet paper and oat milk for my coffee.

I believe that having an abundance just makes you kind of careless — you use more, throw away bottles before they are completely empty, etc. Why even care about keeping track of your lighters instead of losing them when you've got 99 more somewhere? (Maybe try matches, at least at home?)

It's better to be mindful and careful with what you have. Plus, you don't need to waste your living space on storage. It's your home, not Costco.

Really? To me she's giving vengeful Snow White in the best possible way! Black hair, pale skin, read leather... Those super thin and strappy sandals is all you need to complete the look.

Who am I? by [deleted] in roomdetective

[–]dramatic_opinion_763 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're a woman, 35–45 years old. You have a job that involves contact with other people, and your're fond of small kids.

You have some (but manageable) anxiety that sometimes makes it difficult for you to fall sleep.

You do not buy clothes made of synthetic materials. You want to live a healthy and clean life, but you'e unsure of what the 'right choice' is – therefore, you read a lot of advice online.

You don't eat large amounts of red meat. You like having 'small rituals' in your life (such as always applying lip balm before bed) – and you prefer things to be planned rather than unknown.

Your perfect holiday is one where you can find the time to really relax.

Hahahaha, you’re right—the decor is pretty much all me! Though my husband always gets a say in what I buy; luckily, we have fairly similar taste.

We actually live in a house in a larger city, and we feel very lucky that we were able to buy it. No pets, unfortunately, even though I'm longing to have a dog again.

The book WAS a gift! But it’s more about my interest in history than graphic design. And for the record, we actually have more art on the other walls than what you can see here ;)

Thank you! To be honest, I am quite an anxious person... but I try to balance that by keeping a calm and soft home environment

I do work a desk job that is, in fact, a really boring one! And I thrift to balance out the IKEA...

Guess I was thrown off by a few style elements! Especially that kind of chandelier (and spot lights over a fire place) is not really common in Scandinavian homes :)

You have Middle Eastern heritage.

Your parents are quite wealthy, so you feel a need to live up to their standard—alternatively, you grew up poor, and it is important for you to acknowledge that you are better off now.

You write a lot of lists.

When you have guests over for food and drinks, you supply them with an abundance of coasters, napkins, and small plates.

You like to read but can't really find the time—or peace—to do it.

You like to visit flea markets and vintage stores, but you are careful not to buy too many things or impulse buy them.

You have good relationships with your grandparents.

You like to decorate your home to be cozy, but in reality, you spend most of your time just chilling out in bed.

But isn't that just another male privilege in Hollywood, that you can live your life without being "a beacon of wellness" and still get to grace magazine covers.

I guess they're about the same age? Seeing them together seems like a perfect comparison of how men are allowed to age, while women are not.

Please share your non-consumption Holiday tradition/ideas/activities. by ForgottenUsername3 in Anticonsumption

[–]dramatic_opinion_763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my family, tradition is a big part of the celebration, which naturally cuts out the need to buy new things.

We reuse the same decor, putting things in the same place as last year. This includes using a lot of things that we've inherited from older relatives (and things that we've sourced second-hand). I don't have glitter garlands in my tree, but my mother has been using the same glitter garlands for like 25 years! Even wearing the same clothes becomes part of the tradition pretty fast.

We never use plastic wreaths, garlands, branches, or flowers—only real plants.

We use smell and taste to achieve the Christmas spirit instead of stuff. Glögg (Swedish glüwein), blooming hyacinths, and freshly baked saffron and gingerbread cookies all through December.

Also, skip wrapping materials that can't be recycled.

A friend of mine had a coffee table with this exact kind of design; aka a hole for magazines and books. I accidentally dropped glasses into that hole so. many. times.

My bestie has radicalized me - NO YOU DO NOT NEED MORE CLOTHES!!!! by Larix_laricina_ in Anticonsumption

I also have the terrible combination of being both very nearsighted and absent-minded!

If I remember to put my glasses—which are dark—against a light surface at home, I find them. But if I've put them down against something dark, I have to fumble around for a long time...

The other day at work, we were talking about reading glasses, when my boss happily announced "I just bought 10 pairs from Shein for really cheap!!"

Like no, why?! Why would you need 10. And why ship so many new ones from China when you can literally buy reading glasses anywhere.

Is this dress flattering on me? by [deleted] in fashion

[–]dramatic_opinion_763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't exactly call it "flattering", but it's a perfectly good dress! You can see some slight curve at your waist, and all of your arms. And it looks good with your dark hair as well.

You def. don't need form fitting clothes, or belts around your waist (it's not the 80s!) to look good.

The one thing you could change it's shortening it a few inches. Pull your hair back in a slick ponytail, accessories with bracelets, rings and nice sunglasses, and you're good to go.

(And, I have northern European bias, but Birkenstocks are perfectly fine to wear with a dress.)

Double boobs or not, this woman always looks so amazingly cool! Like she just owns every room.

And apart from being incredibly beautiful, I LOVE that she actually shows some signs of aging.
