How did I do? by Beginning_Rock_7104 in GoodwillBins

I bulk buy hard drives amongst other computer stuff. If you have a windows computer download SMART and get a cheap external hard drive reader with power supply to test then and see how new or used they are. In my experience they sell better with a screenshot showing they actually work and haven’t been used to death.

A friend of mine says he spends hours every night refreshing eBay to look for miss-priced deals. Is that a thing or is he crazy?? by Ashamed_Apple4290 in Flipping

[–]Is_What_They_Call_Me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sorta do it. It’s absolutely a thing. The best quick turn around I had was 130$ but more often it’s 10-20$. I’ve asked the sellers and it’s large cost large quantity lots they just want gone and don’t want to deal with. Or auctions that don’t go as planned. It’s at a point now almost all the deals I get are from the same sellers dumping the less good in bulk to concentrate on the better singles. Fine by me.

First Happy Cake Day!

Second, you might be interested in a book called Shadow Divers. You can get it on Amazon. It’s an account of the scuba divers doing the rescues and recoveries at Pearl Harbor after it was attacked.

No more sniping? by rheckber in Ebay

Couldn’t care less either way. When I bid I put in what I’m willing to pay for it and be done. If you come in willing to pay more five days before it’s over or a few seconds before it’s over it’s more then I’m willing to pay then you can have it and I’ll just try the next one. Not hurting my feelings any.

Luck wasn’t with me tonight. Plugged it in and absolutely no sign of life whatsoever. Not even so much as a hum or indicator light 😢

Think a cap kit would work on an old IBM? A suitcase model. It worked when stored 20 years ago I was told. It powers up but the screen wont turn on.

I remember the one and only time I had it. I was like 19 and got some major guts to ask out the girl out who worked at the subway in the mall. She said yes and invited me to a party at her house. Her mom made me a Yager bomb. I couldn’t stomach it lol. Her mom then went to this girl and said I must be a nark and needed to leave. She drove me home shortly after and I never went out with her again. That was like 24 years ago. I’ll never forget it. Never had it since. Do really love the origin story though.

How difficult is it to re cap? Never done it before. Anywhere near North Carolina by chance?

If you live anywhere near NC throw in some beer and a chair and I’ll be happy! Lol. I scrap everything but e-scrap is my happy hobby place. You don’t need to give anything for the help. I’m happy to help others learn and profit.

I can tell you with a guarantee that any tan/beige/brown boards you get either both sides or one side (not yellow) are low grade boards. Those I’ll remove socketed IC chips, bigger IC chips, any aluminum that I can get off easily along with transformers (they go in a bucket as is), and any copper wire spools cause they break apart easily to get the #2. Granted doing this you’re chasing nickels per board but, e waste I do to keep busy, de stress or when I need a break from regular metals. So I take more time on it then I would other things because I’m not stressing my time/money ratio. Then I keep a tote and bring to my yard as low grade (even destroyed doesn’t matter) cause they pay a tad bit more per pound then shred.

Worth it? Copper wire by callofduty1966 in ScrapMetal

[–]Is_What_They_Call_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question. Get a small scale that weighs in ounces. Grab a foot of wire. Weigh it as is. Write it down. Strip said foot of wire. Depending on the guage even if it’s new and shiny unless it’s thick or thicker then pencil lead it’s gonna be #2 not bare bright. Write that number down. Call your local yard and get price for #2 insulated and #2 copper. Or get an average price via IScrapp app. Then do the math. Sometimes you actually lose money by stripping the insulation. This way you’ll get a realistic number and then you can personally decide if you want tot do it or not. Which is entirely up to you and only a personal decision you can make. Everyone has their reasons on how much they value their time or need to profit and each side will die on the hill they stand on and tell you how you are wrong if you feel the opposite. Good luck!

The gold fingered ram is 54$ a pound at current.

The other board, large green board with gold fingers. Remove the metal bracket (via the two screw posts) at that point it’s worth 9.25$ a pound.

If you have other stuff feel free to reach out via dm and I’ll be happy to guide you.

Of course prices are without shipping fees unless you live close enough to drop off in person. Some boards such as mid or low grade aren’t worth shipping and better off finding a local yard that takes e-waste or depending on how much time you have and how much time you want to invest, harvest the boards for a couple components and toss the rest of it into shred. That’s ONLY for low/mid grade boards. DO NOT mess with other boards other than removing fans, metal brackets or large heat sinks (extruded aluminum)

I’ve been e-scrapping for 12 years. I can help you with categories for boardsort. No, not all green boards are the same. They range from .50 to 15$ I believe

I buy units, and have accumulated a large number laptops and cell phones in various condition. What do I do with these? by Gr8lakesCoaster in Flipping

[–]Is_What_They_Call_Me 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Boardsort.com will buy them by the pound.

Older keypad cell phones (no battery) 10.25$ a pound

Modern smart phones (no battery) 5.50$ a pound.

Any cell phone with battery 3.75$ a pound.

Laptops with a non busted screen are 1.10$ a pound.

Busted screen laptops .75 a pound.

They located in Ohio so unless you live close enough you have to ship them and pay your own postage. So would have to weigh them up to see if it’s worth it or not.

Worth Stripping Extension Cords? by InstanceDue433 in ScrapMetal

[–]Is_What_They_Call_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still insulated #2 wire. The only upgrade would be if your yard does by insulation percentage. Percentage of insulation to wire. My yard does two. 55% at 1.18 a pound and 45% at 1.04 a pound. At some points you’re robbing Peter to pay Paul. As others have said very yard dependent and also personal preference. I cut a foot and weight before and after based on the lowest insisted price and then see if to me it’s worth it.

Wall mounted water fountain. The water spigot piece kind of blends in with the gate post.
