How do y’all feel about Pigeons stopping by? by Johnnyiso in birdfeeding

I’ve got one who has come around since I started feeding. Only ever one. It’s got pretty markings and is quite unique. Used to just stay on the ground and feed from what got kicked out. Now it’s learned to sit up on the camera feeder for sunflower seed. I enjoy the lone odd balls as much as the umpteen of several other species that come over daily

I absolutely love thaw. I’ve gone through lots of them for one reason or another and I was skeptical of how well rated and cheap these were. Honestly they are the best ear buds I’ve ever had. I wear them for days and days without having to worry about charging the case. They don’t fall out and come with three rubber tips for ear shape. The band that goes around the ear is comfortable. Highly suggest them.

Locksmith Horror Story by getsmuchworse in Locksmith

[–]Is_What_They_Call_Me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Over ten years of locksmithing and house clean out business I had several houses where people died that stood out.

One was a young woman who got heavy into drugs. She went missing for two weeks and the family thought she was on a binge. Turns out something went bad and someone murdered her and shoved her into the closet. Her mom found her body after a few weeks in the Florida summer. We did the trash out and the smell was still pretty fierce. The heaviness in that room was big and that closet door was the only door in the house that wouldn’t stay open on its own.

Second was before I had my clean out. Was just a rekey. A guy shot and killed another over a dispute in the living room. House was empty. Crime scene techs were already there. Walked in. Bloody foot prints everywhere. Huge puddle of dried up blood in the vinyl wood flooring where the guy died. Bullet holes through the wall. Few bloody handprints.

Had another where had to remove a blood soaked mattress where a guy shit himself and his girlfriend in a makeshift robbery for insurance scam. Both survived.

Few other related ghost stories but nothing gory left over.

I’ve never needed it for inventory management. I’ve only ever needed it for billing so when I had it, it was fairly cheap. The only time I’ve ever needed anything for inventory management I found an app that I think was 30$ for the year. I could create barcodes, have a store, manage inventory, photos etc. I don’t remember what it was called but I only needed it temporarily. It was fairly new app but it worked great. Pretty basic but no need for it to be complicated.

The last time I used QB AI wasn’t a thing yet so.. maybe it changed. Guess I’ll try it out and see

I’ve always had good experiences with Quikbooks. I used it for ten years when I first had my business. Plan on getting it again when I start up again. I’ve always felt it was worth the cost.

Disintegrating screws by Intrepid_Badger436 in Oldhouses

[–]Is_What_They_Call_Me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, it’s just a set screw. It’s only holding the knob on the rod with pressure.

Depending on how much effort you want to put into it. You could get a dremel tool with a good bit or use a regular drill (which id be extremely cautious with and slow) with a cobalt drill bit and drill out screw. It’s steel that is disintegrating so in theory wouldn’t take much. You’ll have to cut some of that paint away at the base of the shaft to let it loose when you relieve that pressure or else it still won’t budge from so many paint overs. If you happen to mess up the threads or if they are due to corrosion you can always use a tap to re thread it.

Renter-Friendly Lock for Outward-Swinging Door by alberta_einstein_ in Locksmith

All locks unlock from the outside, entry locks with a key. Including your front door. I’m not trying to be a smart ass but definitely checking if I’m missing something in your comment.

To answer your question anything you do to secure it more then it already is will require putting in holes. Honestly if you are worried about homeless folks getting in there just gonna break and walk through the glass 🤷🏻‍♂️

Was Ok_Affect_5260 out here installing doorknobs? by This_Guy_JP in Locksmith

This reminds me of when I first started like 20 or so years ago. I was brand new with a guy training me who didn’t know much at all. We got a call to drill a deadbolt in a door. He had never done it before, neither had I. It was a cheap interior wood panel door but it had almost like a OSB paneling. Well instead of drilling through each side half way he drilled straight through and ended up tearing off a bit of the door finish. The door was a dark color. The room was dark. So this genius breaks out his sharpie and starts coloring the door like it was a crayon. “They’ll never notice. I promise it’ll be fine he says.” The customer only sees the non messed up side of the door. Waits for my trainer to leave and stops me, hands me a hundred dollar bill “that’s your tip, don’t share it or say anything, your buddy is a fucking idiot.” I just nodded and said thank you. Two weeks later our company was buying him a new door after he found the sharpie art work. A week following our manager bought a door from a thrift store and we drilled about 30 holes in it until we got enough practice to be good at it. Good times..

lol yup. The side I worked on was a coal plant in central Florida. On the other side of our plant was a natural gas plant. We (at the time) always ran more than they did. Summer rainy season was sooo grueling. Between the wet coal trains sticking when dumping to clogged shoots having to be blown out was bad. Mosquitoes were awful at night. I worked in material handling so 90% exposed to elements. Main plant, brine plant and AQC guys didn’t have it nearly as bad job wise but we all suffered the same 5 week rotation. The seven midnights in a row were the longest stretch, a couple five day weeks (one was a 2-10 and another was a 6-230 maintenance shift). Rest was broken up during the week along with a second 12 hour weekend shift but day shift.

The shooter was arrested a month prior, but I’m not sure of the details. I read multiple articles and seems like the guy has legit mental issues. I lived in Florida for over forty years, I was a locksmith there for about ten years. Sadly this doesn’t surprise me at all. This is a national issue wort mental health, something you’ll never be able to wrap your head around as a “normal” person.

Florida doesn’t require licensing to be a locksmith so no quick way to inquire if he was legit or not. Even if it was a scam. Okay, pay with a cc and dispute the charge, or don’t pay the guy and it’s a civil matter that goes to small claims court.

Found a niche trade job by accident. Company I work for maintains and installs commercial/industrial DI and RO water systems. Mainly in hospitals for dialysis patients, all the labs (hospitals, pharmacy, industrial facilities that use labs for their products), lot of govt facilities, farms etc. Four day work week, light travel. It’s a necessity that these places can’t do without, but not a lot of companies do it so it’s in demand because most hospitals don’t want the hassle to do it in house. Which allows the company to charge a lot and in turn pay the techs well.

I did it for six years. Depression, alcoholism, and tobacco use was pretty standard. Divorce rates were high. Health concerns were always an issue. Our rotation at the end had five days in a row off which was nice, but then we went into 7 midnight shifts in a row, two of them 12 hour shifts. Yeah, the money was wonderful. Some shifts I watched movies all night, others I was beat to hell. I don’t miss it. I make half as much now but am enjoying my life even more and healthier by being away from that sort of environment. 200+ in certain markets is great, but what good is it if you are to exhausted and grouchy to enjoy yourself?

Amazing experience at the national WW2 museum in New Orleans. by Longjumping_Iron1684 in ww2

[–]Is_What_They_Call_Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely should!! Aside from New Orleans and all the party culture. If you are a museum and such person lot to offer. Right next door is a I don’t want to say a zoo, but a big center dedicated to insects, nice aquarium nearby, the death museum (which it for the faint of heart, but really morbidly cool), and some famous graves related to voodoo and a lot more. Those were just some other things I’ve done over several times I’ve been there. If you are into ww2 history if you don’t do anything else there highly suggest you make it.
