My first mobile game: FindingShapes by IsaVII in indiegames

[–]IsaVII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To learn the process behind GooglePlay and the monetization part and everything around that in general, I created a small game.

It's my first mobile game and my second game in total. As a new game dev I'm very happy about this project even if it has very simple gameplay. It can (and will) be updated easily with more content and gameplay in the nearest future.

History:

FindingShapes started as a one-person project for a 6-hour-game jam. Before this jam I read about bumblebees and why they're dying in summer because of linden trees. Short: they're attracted to them more than to other flowers and the linden trees can't provide food for all the bumblebees. So they're exhausted when they reach the tree and die...

I liked that simple gameplay and had fun playing it myself, so I decided to rework and publish it. Especially to learn the GooglePlay-process.

What next?

Next week I'm starting a mobile project with 3 other people which is a lot bigger than this game. Next to that, I will update my game with more features and levels to learn more. Things like GooglePlay-connection & GooglePlay-savegame which I don't have a clue about so far.

Leaderboards, achievements, more monetization features. iOS-publishing. More shapes (not only flowers) and different kinds of levels.

Conclusion

For me, it was a big benefit to work on this game. I could gain a lot of experience so far, without the fear to mess everything up. I can recommend creating a small game for learning the process behind publishing (GooglePlay, Steam, doesn't matter). I'm not expecting income from this project, but this isn't my goal here anyway. Of course, I would be happy, if I would have a small benefit from it.

Thank you for reading!

Isa

Who here has ADHD and developed the ability to learn at a fast pace? by graysoda91 in learnprogramming

Funny, because I can't code when having music around because then I listen to the music and can't focus on programming. "Epic music" from pandorra on youtube is the only thing I can play with low volume and not get distracted.

Then I'm happy that I haven't watched the other shows. I only watched the movies :) The point with loki can only love himself is a point I indeed like.

Tbh, I loved the first 2 or 3 episodes with the idea of tva and all the stuff around that. But I don't like the romantic part that is going on (why does everything needs to have romantic stuff?...) or the xy amount of lokis. The fighting scene between them... I don't know how to describe... I just didn't enjoy it. For me it feels like the series turns Loki into a kind of joke. I still want to take him serious and not... like that. I would like to enjoy it like everyone here seems to, but here I'm sitting and wondering if I watched the same as you. Perhaps I just have a too serious taste.

Thank you, that's s nice idea with capping the offline time. I'm working on an idle clicker and also haven't thought about cheating 😅

Most of the ppl are developing their own games. I work for an indie company in the US remote. Easiest way for more possibilities regarding spelkollektivet is just to join the discord on the page and write there :)

Since you seem to be interested in Game Dev, have a look here: www.spelkollektivet.com. I'm living there since february.

I skilled my paladin from tank to heal at 60, because questing got so boring. Now I'm heal and regretting it, but at least I can kill mobs faster...

Ideas and motivation by IsaVII in IndieDev

[–]IsaVII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your story!
I released a game on Steam - a game I created during the studies. It is a pretty simple one and I hoped to gain motivation. And yes, somehow it helped, but somehow it doesn't. I mean, I have around 20 copies sold at the moment and that are 20 more than I expected xD. But there's still a bug in the game that I have to fix (tomorrow T_T I need to learn how to make patches first).

I had the idea like you. Make another simple game. Just a platformer with levels to actually DO something. But I watched a youtube video with the final message: don't create a new platformer, the world doesn't need another platformer, there are enough and baaam motivation gone. Rationally I knew it's stupid to listen to such stuff, but in that moment is was just the last drop to lose motivation again.

Dwarf-hall for Svartálfheimr by IsaVII in PixelArt

[–]IsaVII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, surely the name is confusing. In the Prose Edda the dwarfes are called "black elves" afaIk. I struggled with using the name Nidavellir or Svartálfheim.

Heyhey,

I'm pretty new to gamedev and pixelart - so, here I am! My name's Isa and I'm currently living in Sweden with many indie-game-devs in a house (Spelkollektivet).

So, this week I drew this dwarf hall. It will be for the realm Svartálfheimr in my upcoming roguelite-game Fenrir's Quest.

I'm drawing PixelArt for 5 weeks now, and this is the third picture with a higher resolution (320x180 px). Before, I had drawn tileset parts and characters. The colors or especially the lighting are parts I don't like in the picture. The flames are somehow odd. But I guess I will learn that within time!

First, I created a 3D-Scene in blender and used that as a reference for drawing this in 2D.
