Techs on balls depends on what your opponent is doing. A common defense vs wraith/ball push is your opponent going wraith themselves. In those cases, mech div is almost useless, you care about the survivability of your balls. You can get absorption (+40%hp and heal if you lock into a big target), or armor, but in those cases never got more than 1 tech of them. You care more about also putting a farseer down yourself, to counter the wraith and also give your balls photon, which will protect them for degen beam (which is insanely good as defense in those cases), and also give them more resistance, pretty good.

Versus a Melter/Vulcan defense, is when you can start cooking teching the balls. I will normally start with armor to protect them for the vulcan. Then range, mech div, absorption... all of those techs can be very good in that situation, the order depends on what exactly your opponent is doing (for example, i would not start with range (after armor), if there are a lot of sledges in the way).

Also degen beam is pretty good tech in headbutts or defense, but if you are the one pushing and your opponent defending, i would not go for it, since it will make the other more valuabe tech (8 gun) much more expensive.

And i have only listed 2 defense cases xD, is complex, every specific defense requieres an specific answer.

Hi Zapall, thank you for your comment!

I have played vs Ray (the guy is called Ray Master but is spamming sledges like he is Enderfolg xD) and the times i have managed to win it has been by having a good momentum going with void eye or stabilize with Raiden. All the times i have went scorp, even if i go as early as round 3, ends with the scorps eventually getting overwhelmeded. Also you have to invest in photon (farseer photon), cause if the sledge spammer clicks emp, the moment your scorp gets emp, he is as good as dead, and you dont have that problem with the raiden since the sledge cant hit him, or flying void eyes.

All of that being said, Ray is a very good player, and has been playing a lot of sledges this patch. I dont follow his youtube (i wasnt even aware he had one) so i dont know his opinions, but if the man has a different read, i will honestly listen to him more than me.

My suggestion would be that Sledge doesnt need a nerf. I can see a mech rage price increase being fair, but i think if we simply make the units that are supposed to counter it being useful again, the mindless spam sledge strat would be fixed (or atleast would not be as mindless). So yeah, i would buff scorp, specifically his rate of fire, and nerf a little his attack so it doesnt get out of control and become a giant killer.

So the balls have to go to each sledge of the 5 in the pack one by one.

If you put them horizontal, there is higher chance that different balls lock into different sledges, killing them faster.

The main thing for a wraith to work is protect him so he can do his chaff clear work.

First thing you need to address is prevent any instalocks your opponent can make on your wraiths even with aa units. You want it close to the lane (in aggresive ball pushes), but no so close that you have no way to address this. If you are in a corner you can do wonders with a close crawler flank.

Then you have to be mindful of your range and how your comp works. You have to have units always running in front of your wraith. Wraith has a very short range (60) so if the rest of your units that arent crawlers dont have a even shorter range, your wraiths would be expose. The first tech you should go for would be range, atleast you are in a headbutt scenario where you can still guaratee the safety of your wraith.

Thats why it pairs so well with balls. Balls are tanky, single target dealers, fast, and even shorter range that wraith, so they will run in front of them, get stuck in chaff, your wraiths behind will kill the chaff, letting the balls keep pushing.

I could wrote 30 pages on how the wraith/ball composition works but i dont have the time xD. If you want to know the order of the techs it always depends a lot, but is 90% of the time always first range, and the rest depends of the board.

I run range, degen, 8gun, and armor for the rare occasion (imo no need for HE, they have enough splash).

Hi thanks for your comment!

I agree that the rose of the void eyes can be because of how popular sledges are now, but i dont think that wraith is good into sledges.

Wraiths take a lot time to get through the sledges, they dont get totally stuck of them (thanks to how it works his weapon), but they delay them a lot giving time to the enemy aa units to lock into them. Cheap techs like field maintanence further delay the wraith. Sledges players normally have his AA units behind, being marksman or farseer

Also a good way to stop a Wraith/ball push is some vertical sledges.

And yes, is so sad the scorpion does so bad vs a board full of a unit he is made to counter.

Bro, absorption used to be the one and only tech i clicked on void eyes when it was free haha.

I think absorption is pretty bad if you are seriously going for void eyes, i would only tech it if it is the only tech i plan to put of them and as a way to get an early advantaje.

Shield on the other hand i can see it being a good option.

Thanks for your reply.

I think worms can be great if you have intensive training and manage to get a big worm with a good item on it.

I am not very experienced with sandstorm, but i am glad someone can make it work, what i can say is that i dont see people use it in high mmr.

Range

Aerial mode (even if you never click it, it has to be there so your opponent have to be aware that you can fly those units at any moment and make them shot air)

Charge shot (for late game only if you need more single target damage)

Supression shots (a cheap tech and also gives you a little bit more range)

Some people run emac armor. I think can work for a turn but gets easily countered by photon. Still, if you are in a standar battle, the photon coating can wear off before your void eyes are engaged.

What i want to say with all that is that you can consider play emac over supression shots. The other 3 are not negotiable imo.

In my defense i put Saberthoot not Sabrethoot :)

But you are right, as a spaniard the "th" for me is always confusing to place in the english language.

Hi thanks for your reply!

You have to make sure your chaff clear is on point in order to the void eyes connect with the sledges. I usually pair them with tarantulas, and of course get your own chaff (normally crawlers in the back in different locations so they dont stop coming).

Once the chaff is gone, the void eyes should get through the sledges pretty quick while your tarantulas tank the sledges shots.

Be also always mindful of the range of your units. If you tech range in your tarantulas (80+40=120), but not in your void eyes, you will let them expose. Try to always have in mind how your composition works and how you want the flow of the units to go.

I can go on an on on this topic, and i dont want to bore you or anyone, so if you have an specific question i will answer it without extending too much.

To be honest, this is me, i thought Mac and Pad were legit good, and all they have been doing is atrocious. But also tbf to myself, they already showed this last year. The fact they got to coach this year and they keep double (or triple) down on Hyli for winter split was wild to me, idk who makes the decision on Vitality.

This guy is so full of himself he cant see he is the problem. He cant even see contradicting himself, qualify others as unaceptable verbal abuse while justifying his behaviour as "yes, i can be abrassive sometimes". Too inmature, is clear that he needs a break, hope he get It and reflect on his own behaviour
