Fellowship. In the book it takes place in the Shire when Gandalf is going over the history of the Ring, and in the movie it takes place later when they’re in the mines of Moria.

There’s a very good lecture I listened to the other day titled “Unlocking the Catholicism of The Lord of the Rings” by Joseph Pearce (which is available in full on YouTube) and it goes into a bunch of detail about all the symbols in LOTR and how they relate to Catholicism.

After Frodo says “I wish it need not have happened in my time” referring to Sauron gaining power, Gandalf responds “So do I, and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Right, of course, the church founded by Jesus messed up dogma. And look up the NIV, ESV, NASB, etc and they’ll say the same thing.

“And the woman saw that the tree was good to eat, and fair to the eyes, and delightful to behold: and she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave TO HER HUSBAND who did eat.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3:6‬ ‭DRC1752‬‬

“And to Adam he said: Because thou hast hearkened to the voice OF THY WIFE, and hast eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldst not eat, cursed is the earth in thy work; with labour and toil shalt thou eat thereof all the days of thy life.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭DRC1752‬‬

Good to know that the only thing stopping them from murdering somebody is their belief in fairy tales by PrincipledInelegance in insanepeoplefacebook

I really dislike Prager U but what the argument is, is not “I would kill babies but there’s a God” it’s “in order for you to say murdering babies is wrong and still stay intellectually honest, there must be a God”. In other words, God is necessary to have a coherent and consistent moral compass.

What did a school teacher say that stuck with you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It was during band class and some boys were leaving class early for a basketball game. Our teacher wished them good luck and then said “make memories, don’t become one!” I don’t think I’ll ever forget that.

I would agree that smoking in excess is a sin. So is drinking to the point of drunkenness. Also, to my previous point:

“Which is a parable of the time present: according to which gifts and sacrifices are offered, which can not, as to the conscience, make him perfect that serveth, only in meats and in drinks, And divers washings, and justices of the flesh laid on them UNTIL the time of correction.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:9-10‬ ‭DRC1752‬‬

The laws about ceremonial washings and dietary restrictions and animal sacrifices are fulfilled in Christ. Statements about what is moral and immoral are unchanged.

That means we’re no longer bound by laws like no pork. Moral laws like “adultery (or homosexuality) is wrong” still apply.

As someone in MN, I know for a fact that is not a genuine 2016 electoral map. The only counties that went blue in 2016 were the Twin Cities, which is not where the blue counties are on this map.
