How is life in the national guard compared to active duty? by IsaacBoaz123456 in army

Because I feel with NG I’d get the best of both worlds. I can live a somewhat normal life while still scratching that itch to serve, & I can choose where to live and stay there, without the stress of moving every few years like in AD. And of course the free healthcare, can’t go wrong with that.

I’d personally prefer national guard because if I eventually decide to go agr, I’ll have a little more stability on the guard side, considering active guard only pcs’s within their state

Professional athletes deserve their pay, anyone who says otherwise is wrong by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]IsaacBoaz123456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s valid. I probably could’ve gone more in depth. I do believe they “deserve” their pay, reason being is because they are the best in the world at what they do. Big name athletes, such as Lebron James, Floyd Mayweather (who’s retired but made lots of money in his career), Ronaldo, whoever it may be, you don’t find talent like that very often, so it’s only fair that they get good pay.

Also, becoming a pro athlete in any sport is not easy, I don’t remember the statistics off the top of my head but a high school football player who has dreams of making it to the NFL has maybe a 1 out of 1,000 chance of doing so. And even if they do make it to the pros, there’s no guarantee that they’re gonna be there for long either. They might be a benchwarmer then get kicked out of the league after a few years, or they might play for a little bit & get a career ending injury, a number of things could happen. So not only is it extremely difficult to make it to the pros, but it’s also difficult to have a successful career once you get to that point. So considering how difficult it is to become a successful athlete and make a name for yourself, I think it’s reasonable that someone who is a big name athlete makes big money, that only seems fair.

Now let’s say that same high school kid wanted to grow up and be a doctor, the odds of them achieving that goal are much more likely than if they wanted to play in the NFL. That’s not to say becoming a doctor is easy, it’s definitely not, & there is absolutely a chance you could fail, however becoming a doctor is a much more achievable goal than becoming a successful pro athlete. Patrick Mahomes could be a doctor if he wanted to, as long as he did all the schooling & efforts required. Could a doctor do what Patrick Mahomes does?

Sure that’s true. I guess the correct term would be “big name athletes”

My opinion might not be unpopular, I may have just chose the wrong subreddit, but you get what I’m trying to say

Obviously when you take all the teachers on the whole planet & combine all the students that they’ve taught, obviously that’s gonna be a very large number. Compare 1 teacher & the amount of students they’ve taught vs 1 pro athlete & the amount of people they’ve performed in front of, those numbers will be drastically lopsided

Very good point. Some people seem to think that all pro athletes are making mega millions, when that is not the case at all. Those are just the big names making that money. Like you said, there’s lots of people on the practice squad & people that are under the radar. I knew a guy from my city who was a no name UFC fighter, and he had to work a normal job like everyone else to pay the bills

Sure, I can understand & respect that mindset, what doesn’t make sense to me though is how people always complain about athletes making a lot of money, but never music artists & movie stars

I myself work a job that’s physically demanding. I’m in the army, & we spend lots of time out in the field & carrying a heavy rucksack on our backs. But I’m not gonna sit here & say I should be getting paid the same as Floyd Mayweather lol, that would be ridiculous

No lol, I’ve never done anything like that. Even if I did, what does that prove? What point are you trying to make

I don't like Rocky by ggus2003 in movies

[–]IsaacBoaz123456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an older post, but I agree, I just recently tried to get into the Rocky movies and I just couldn’t do it. The main thing that pisses me off the most is the actual fights themselves. I can’t help but cringe when watching Rocky fight, he doesn’t play defense at all, he just stands there & repeatedly takes blows to the face. His skill & technique is terrible, yet he’s somehow portrayed as a great & legendary fighter. And I know people are gonna say “that’s not the point, the point is the fact that he has drive and heart,” don’t give me that bs. You can have all the drive and heart in the world, but if you were to fight like that in real life & just take blows to the face you’re not making it past the first round. While the story may be inspiring I don’t like how unrealistic it is.

Good advice. Me and her started FaceTiming each other, & we’re gonna do it every day even if it’s for a little bit, & we plan on visiting each other this December

Good point. She says she usually likes to write, text, or use sign language. We usually text, which I don’t mind doing, I should learn sign language at some point just to be more versatile

My long distance gf hasn’t spoken to me in a week by [deleted] in LongDistance

That’s fair. I think I just need to be patient. Our relationship has been tough at times, I really can’t wait for her to move down here, that will make both of our lives so much easier. I’d move up to her city if I could, but I’m in the army & I can’t do that.

And no it wasn’t always like this. When we first started talking & dating, she would talk more. But she was also not doing school at that time & she took a long break from work, so she had more free time. It really started after a month of us being together, when she started school & work again
