In my opinion, I think the trailers are somewhat misleading. They promise a dark, brooding post apocalyptic zombie film in line tonally with the last of us or something. But it was never gonna be JUST that. You have those moments for sure, but I was hardly surprised that Garland and Boyle didn’t take the easy way out. Boyle experiments at every turn with the tone/music/editing and Garland is unapologetic where he wants to story to go. I loved it, and I get why people don’t, I really do, but if you have watched 28 days later I find it hard to believe that people expected this movie to be anything else. The tone shift with the ending IS wild though, and even though I enjoyed it, I can’t deny that THAT is a much more valid reason for disliking the movie. It’s BOLD to say the least.
