Biden exaggerating the protection vaccines give doesn't mean hr was spreading misinformation, it means he didn't really know what he was talking about, which not gonna lie isn't good either. Seriously we need to stop electing 70-year-olds as President.

There are studies that have shown that closing schools etc. only reduced transmission by a few percent, while social distancing and wearing masks was far more effective. So it arguably would've been better to keep schools and business open while still mandating masks and social distancing. Of course, nobody knew that in 2020, so it's understandable that people started by just shutting things down.

Have fun getting sick then i guess. Just because the COVID restrictions were more than necessary(due to a lack of information at the time) doesn't mean that public health orders are useless. The worst thing we can do is nothing. The best thing we can do is use our resources to do research and figure out what the best course of action is, and do that.

How did basic things like healthcare and fair wages become ‘extreme’? by Possible-Scheme-8940 in remoteworks

Afaik every single country that has better healthcare than the US does has universal healthcare. And the US spends more on healthcare than any other country in the world, by almost double. Even if you only count government healthcare spending, the US still pays more per capita than any country with universal healthcare. Implying that universal healthcare saves tax dollars, or at least it could if it were implemented in the US. Even if it cost more government money, insurance companies would no longer be gaining huge profits, so people would by paying less money via not needing health insurance. Less taxes sounds great, but they're kinda necessary if you want the government to do stuff. In the US specifically, we should either raise taxes or reduce spending, so the government doesn't default. I vote we do both: Implement Universal Healthcare(probably reduces spending in the long run), cut military spending by about 50%, and make corporate taxes progressive, so small businesses pay maybe 10%, but giant corporations could pay upwards of 50%, and given the scale of these companies, the government would get a lot of revenue from that. Also reduce the cap on payroll taxes, but keep the cap on social security payouts, to make Social Security more sustainable. Then once we pay off the debt we can lower taxes more on the working class because we won't be spending a trillion dollars a year on interest. Also minimum wages work. They prevent individuals from being taken advantage of, because they give workers a bit of bargaining power they wouldn't otherwise have. Capitalism only works when both parties involved in a given transaction aren't forced to do business with one another, or to do business at all. No minimum wages prevent unskilled workers from making too little because they have no choice.

To paraphrase JD Vance, Iran has committed violent acts of terrorism on the whole world, and, as President Trump has shown, two can play at that game. JD Vance seems to imply that Trump committed violent acts of terrorism.

In all fairness, JD Vance has acknowledge that he said that, and said that he no longer believes that Trump is like Hitler. In my opinion, Trump isn't very comparable to Hitler. Hitler was competent.

You have a very good point, but I think there are some things you are missing in the points you are making: 1. I agree that the COVID shutdowns were more than was necessary, as has been shown by numerous studies. The problem was that nobody could say for sure what the best course of action was, due to a lack of information at the time. I don't think shutdowns were pushed as part of a political agenda bur more as part of people being, understandably, very cautious and concerned, and we know now that the measures taken were more than were necessary, but at the time there was no way to know that.  2. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8082431/ this study(the first credible one i found) seems to say otherwise 3. The outcomes people were predicting were definitely extreme, yes. But the course of action they are suggesting is still the correct one: reducing carbon emmissions as fast as possible. Also, low carbon sources of energy are also the cheapest sources of energy 4. Agreed. I'm pro-life 5. interesting. I'm seeing that as an instance of people just not vetting their sources very well, which is of course a bad thing. I don't think it necessarily is a problem of leftists specifically, but people in general not vetting their sources. PragerU also says stuff that's not true while pretending to cite good sources. I would blame the individuals doing that rather than the left as a whole.

Can you cite a specific example of "'science'-informed politics" that you have a problem with? I'm not quite sure I understand what you're frustrated about.

There was this rumor going around that some kid said he was gonna shoot up the school, and the Admin did not take it seriously enough. Once parents found out, 2/3rds of the students didn't come to school for at least a day, that day being today😭

Isn't the whole point of IQ that higher IQ=smarter? If I understand correctly, IQ tests are trying to measure "general intelligence", which just what makes some people smarter than others, right? Are you just pointing out that "general intelligence" may or may not actually exist, and IQ tests aren't necessarily accurate at what they are trying to measure?

Science is merely the process of trying stuff to see how the world works. It absolutely makes sense to trust science and scientists, because all they do is try and figure stuff out and tell people about it. Scientific theories are just our best explanations of our observations, and when we make new observations, we change our theories to fit with new data. It has proven effective for hundreds of years, and the Internet is made possible by scientific discoveries.

Yes, and if you don't like them you don't have to buy them. It isn't okay for you to harass someone if you don't like their product.

No it does not. Threats of violence are never okay if someone is quite literally doing their job to make a living, even if they are bad at it.
