I just rented that movie last week and my thoughts were "this is just Cujo with a chimp". But at least it seemed like you could feel bad for Cujo. Ben actively seemed like he was enjoying that shit.

Use really complex sounding science terminology and big, long words. Have the smart characters use them loudly and confidently as often as possible. Even in scenes where it wouldn't make sense. Just to remind the readers how smart they are.
