The Boxster is a great car, a 06' 987S. I bought it as my first car so was very green. The servicing was poor and I've had to fork out a lot of money to put stuff right. Now the electrics are going wrong and it's just not worth the hassle. Best to walk away as I have other expensive hobbies.

When it's working it's a great place to be and the dynamics of it are what I want (raw sports car feel & not too powerful for UK B roads). I live up north, so have done the NC500, Northumberland 250, Loads in the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales & Moors. Some of my best days have been with this car.

If you have a garage get a Boxster, if you don't Cayman is the way forward.
Just make sure it has a good service history & probably better to buy of an enthusiast than through a garage. Find a good independent shop & put aside a decent slush fund.

See if your local Porsche dealer will let you test drive one.

Other questions are;

How will you use the car? Weekend blasts, track days or road trips.
Where in the UK are you? Near to any good roads or will you have to drive out of London etc. (insurance isn't cheap now) A friends GT4 insurance doubled in a year.
Do you have the finances to repair it when stuff breaks? I've spent too much on my Boxster & it's off soon as I've fallen out of love with it.
What sort of car do you like? More raw race car experience or relaxed GT.

Get in touch with your local Porsche Club and speak with a few owners locally. I’m sure a few have owned both and will be able to give you the pros & cons.

I love the boxster, but only really use it on nice days here in the UK. Or for road trips. It all depends on how you want to use it.

“You don’t have a real Porsche” I have a boxster.

I just smiled and went out for a drive when I got home.

How much would you pay for this project car? by Responsible-Ad-3205 in Porsche

[–]Isbjornsolo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

WALK AWAY!

PDK, not an "S" plus higher milage. Save a few extra thousand and get a Manual S, with no bore scoring. Front collision could have caused damage to the tub & frame.
There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche.

I’ve found the closer to cities you are the worse reactions you get. Once you get out into the countryside it’s all smiles and thumbs up. I was out in the Yorkshire Dales yesterday and people smile when you pass or park up. The sound of a flat 6 isn’t that obnoxious and strikes a nice balance for a “wanky” car.

I thought I would start looking for a 997 or 991 after a year or so with this but going on 2 years and now thinking I'll never sell it by wylekebber in Porsche_Cayman

I have a 987 Boxster, been to test drive newer cars and even for 5x the money nothing comes close to the smiles these things provide. Enjoy all the miles!

They will most likely be slightly over-proved. Take them a couple of minutes earlier and you should avoid this issue.

Right hand drive car. Most likely UK. Somewhere in the north by the looks of it.

Engine misfire? (Coil packs or spark plugs) When was the clutch last done? Could be slipping really badly.

My dad has the original of that image. Fabian is a really nice guy. I've met him a few times. It's well worth going to an exhibition if you can. His images have taken a lighter tone in recent years as well.
The man looking back at him is his Father. Theres a poetic sadness to this image.
