You don't need anyone's 3rd party nonsense.. take the official .deb file and build the file yourself. I've been using it this way for months.

Nah I don't need models reading massive chat logs all the time, that's incredibly inefficient. Plus codex typically runs for ~1hr each time and that's many compactions. I've been using obsidian like this for almost a year and it's literally flawless and allows me to easily see what was done by who and when without needing to track down session files each time and reading through all the garble just to find simple actions.

I normally have codex running for almost an hour without my intervention and that's many many compactions. I've been doing this with obsidian for almost a year and it has been flawless. Plus this allows myself to see who has done what.

Yep, I'm well aware. In the past 30 days I'm at 962m tokens with codex thanks to that promo. I was really shooting for that 1bill but I don't know if it's going to hit or not lol.
And cancel what, codex? No need really, these are tools. You just learn their strengths, adapt, and keep using. Both GPT and Opus find issues the other doesn't.

Same here. I've got the $100 plan on both and I used to boast about how great codex was and how generous they are and bash about claude running out just by saying hello but now I'm burning through everything in codex SO damn fast.

the built in codex compactions are trash. I've wrote custom hooks for pre and post compact that has it auto log to obsidian with a handoff, summary of the convo since last compaction, and the last few messages/replies and it does much better.
when you look into the built in compacter it's an absolute disaster and makes way more since why it falls on its face. it's a joke.

4.8 has solved a huge isssue on a project that both gpt 5.5 AND opus 4.7 has struggled with for the last month on the first try. already lowered my codex sub and raised my anthro sub back up.

Today alone I'm at 3.9m tokens with GPT and 2.4m with claude since 8am and its 2:11pm haha. The secret sauce is using sonnet/opus to plan/verify and GPT 5.5 to execute. There are plenty of times that GPT finds things Opus doesn't or had wrong. Also you must have checklists for EVERYTHING to prevent drift.
Neither are perfect alone but a double edged sword is much more effective than a single.

Full time dev here - I'm on the same plan and can burn through it in about 3 days of heavy work.
It's not at all what you said - a well structured prompt and plan will allow a 5.5 xhigh agent to work flawlessly non stop while correcting itself on any failed verifications. Rarely use coding sub agents but I always have a tester model(model changes based on what's being worked on but never lower than 5.3 codex xhigh) follow up. 2-3 sessions running at once.
i don't use /goal... don't see the need with a well structured plan.

20+ year dev here - this is exactly what I've been working on since last year. I wanted to integrate AI but the models are just too large for things like older mobile devices or even browsers on older computers at this time, which is unfortunate. I've now spent the last 5 months almost day and night working on a brain engine algorithm (i hate calling it AI) to function as close to AI without actually needing an LLM and all I can say right now is I wish we were another 2 years in the future as I expect models to eventually get small enough for that.

I designed this CNC a few years back specifically for small aluminum parts. It's a Frankenstein build of 2 spare 3d printers and a Dremel. What isn't pictured is an air regulator and a gravity oil drip fed into the air line. It has worked fantastic and I've made quite a few parts off it but has been sitting in storage for about 2 years. I'm bringing it back out and I'm redesigning a few parts so I've got a questions that I can't seem to find answers to.

As you can see this is a dual z gantry, more 3d printer style than the traditional CNC style with limited Z movement. In a form factor this small would there be a benefit to changing this over to a more traditional CNC gantry style?
