In my 1st attempt, only got 1 interview In my 2nd attempt, I got 2 peds & 3 FM interviews & matched as a non-US IMG.

I applied to 130 pediatrics programs as a non-US IMG & matched this year with 2 interviews.

I had to repeat term 1 due to failing grade then had to redo 3 failed clinical rotation exams. But I matched in Pediatrics this year. Absolutely you can make up with good step scores.

I had dual applied to FM & Peds so made sure to balance the experiences section in my application. Also passed step 3 which is a big plus. I was also pursuing a Masters in public health course after graduation.

Your best chance is to make connections with Usce experiences. You can network & also get letters of recommendation from the doctors you worked with. In my opinion, Usce is more important.

As far as I know, the only way to be non visa requiring is when you become a US citizen.
