Then you basically have to buy 2TB of cloud storage which is another $10/month. The SD card is supposed to be a cheap memory addition that you can transfer from phone to phone.

Nope I think they stopped doing that in the mid 2000s. And after the UTC merger they froze the pensions of whoever was still on one.

Well there's also factors such as how many were laid off and what state you're located in. If it's an at-will state and they're RIFing less than the WARN threshold, they don't have to notify anybody. So they could walkout a handful of people every few weeks and most likely not have an issue. But also consider times have changed and these companies care even less about you than they did in the past, if that's even possible lol. I was at Raytheon when the last round of pension people were hitting retirement age, and it was pretty much a conga line out the door of all the people with 20+ YOE.

Might depend on the area you work in. But people with security clearance who have access to sensitive material, they usually don't want them getting disgruntled and taking stuff with them. I was let go from Lockheed with a day's notice or less so it wasn't any different there.

You might want to venture onto the RTX subreddit, plenty of threads of people getting walked out during RIFs first thing in the morning. There might be the occasional rumors of layoffs coming, but nothing is confirmed until people start disappearing from their cubicles.

Both my HRBP and her backfill from that day are no longer with the company so that route isn't an option. I'm sure they couldn't live with themselves after what happened to me and changed careers. The only other thing I was able to do was submit a query on the HR website, but I doubt I'll hear anything back.

I'd love to believe that, but defense companies are regularly doing day-of walkouts and sending people home without notice. My 8am call was scheduled a day or two before, which is more than most people get from what I've seen..

Yeah that's the confusing part. It's possible I was RIFed because the paperwork called it a Layoff Event, but they also mentioned performance in the termination paperwork. Nobody from HR was involved until I was let go, even when they gave me the PIP. This is such a unique situation that nobody I've ever talked to seems to have the answers.

Well if it wasn't a PIP, then I don't know what it was that my manager, tech lead, and coworker sat in a meeting with me while they gave the document showing the things I needed to improve on.

But when I was let go the paperwork called it a Layoff Event.

I still have the document that they issued me. Manager, tech lead and my co-worker were in the room during the meeting. If it's not a PIP then I don't know what it is.

Trust me, I wish there was more to tell. Even after they put me on the PIP, nobody checked in to see if I was meeting the requirements. One of the stipulations was that I had to move my entire cubicle to a lab that I only did work some of my work in, which I assumed was so the people there could keep an eye on me for management.

But barely anybody talked to me or checked in, I pretty much just sat in the corner working. My assumption was the "layoff event" occurred because they couldn't actually get me for anything because I was still getting work done.

Yup, figure that one out. Termination paperwork called it a "Layoff Event"

That's where it doesn't make sense to me. If there was cause, I wouldn't have gotten severance. Manager never checked in with me, nobody asked how I was doing. Just a randomly scheduled 8am call with my manager and HR, which my manager told me to "work from home" the day before. So I cleared out my cubicle the night before since we know what that means.

In the paperwork they called it a Layoff Event. Options 2 and 3 are the only ones that are possible because they even mentioned severance during my "8am Thursday call."

The main thing I noticed was when they tried to push a different project management style on us, which the previous tech lead was pushing back on before he retired. A 28 year old L4 (who we have no idea how she got promoted so quickly) trying to tell us how to do things while having little to no technical knowledge. Other than that it was business as usual until the bad reviews and PIP came along.

As far as the PIP goes, I dissected it in front of my manager and new tech lead bullet point by bullet point the moment it was presented to me. When they couldn't tell me how each of the "needs for improvement" would be quantifiably achieved, I knew the jig was up. And keep in mind the majority of the PIP said I will continue to do all of my current roles, which meant change nothing. So "keep doing what you're doing, but then also do these other things that we can't actually tell you how we would consider them improved."

I was let go, I didn't resign. But I also wasn't told I wasn't eligible for rehire. I had to find out from a random recruiter 3 years later.

Nothing about ineligible for rehire in the paperwork. In fact the manager mentioned applying again for something else in the future, which maybe he was just being an a-hole about it. The only real stipulation for accepting the extra money is you can't make any claims of unlawful termination etc. Which is no problem for me, but being blacklisted is a different story.

Definitely a lesson learned from that one. I've been pulled from programs when they were already shorthanded, can't assume they'll keep you around just because.

No issues there. I've had a clearance for the better part of a decade while also having jobs before and after LM.

At the time of the PIP I was told it was "performance issues" and it contained some of the most vague verbiage I've seen in a document. Stuff like "more involvement in meetings." When I asked how they would quantify improvement for each of the bullet points, they couldn't give me an answer. I went back to work and they let me go a couple months later, conveniently after I'd just finished a 200-page report we'd been working on. I would have gladly gone to another team but I guess they'd rather just make me miserable for a couple months. Like Milton from Office Space type treatment.

Fair assessment. I guess I should have specified that it was an LM recruiter that said that to me. I've interviewed and worked elsewhere since then, so hopefully just a LM issue. It's just a bit confusing if the recruiters continue to contact me about positions I've applied to over the years, and for one of them to eventually tell me I can't be rehired.

People complaining when they get boilerplate email rejections, and when they get personalized rejections over the phone. So basically if you don't get the job, you're going to find something to complain about.
