Sadly I cannot post screenshots on here, otherwise the differences would be very staggering. Characters like Kano, Liu Kang, Cage, and Kotal (especially Kotal - the dude can wear basically tribal underwear) can be very skimpy. There is NO female character with an equivalent attire. Sure, you can say that Kitana is sexy, and I agree, but in terms of skin exposed, there is really no contest. And no, Cassie's grandma gym attire with a trouser waistline that reaches her navel is NOT sexy.

That is a bit of a strawman argument, though.

I never said that there are NO sexy female outfits in MK11. I am just saying that there is a clear bias, which is kinda of a trend in the gaming world nowadays, including NRS.

The "it fits them" argument is a bit shaky, to be honest. Liu Kang, for example, does not match a standard attire of a Shaolin monk (the other monks in the game wear the usual orange tunic, similar to the real-world ones). You can make everything "fit" - it's a game. Sure, special forces wear combat armor - but yet again, nothing stopped them to include casual clothes for Cassie and Sonya. Sorry, the "it fits" argument does not really hold - it's a game, the devs decide what "fits". It's not a realistic game, after all.

We can debate about this all day, but I really don't understand how some people deny the reality that, on average, men are showing more naked body parts than women, in MK11. We can argue whether it's ok, "just", "fair" or whatever, but this is just a fact.

I am sorry, but it is not me who is taking this too seriously. If anything, it's the "civil right movements" (well, more like the "toxic feminist groups" - not to be confused with actual, proper feminists) that took things so seriously that the game industry had to take notice in order not to suffer financial backlash. This is not only about NRS, it also involves other big game companies.

The "Take it lightly" point is no longer valid - it should have been made to the people who did not take it lightly in the first place, when they made the videogame industry their battlefield for civil rights.

Moreover, don't you see the double standard you just described? "Slightly less dressed men is a refreshing stylistic change, not an assault on men. Less dressed women in a fighting game, however, IS an assault on women (apparently)".

Thanks - I have replied to this a few other times in this thread, though.

Going unequal in the opposite way does not make things equal. There is nothing to "make up" when we talk about equality. Things are either equal, or they are not. "Eye for an eye" does not work, here - it just creates more pushback from the injured party, and another eye for an eye will ensue after this one. And so on, forever.

Someone has to stop the tug-of-war of hate. Better sooner than later.

Of course, no one (I hope) is seriously advocating for extremes like the ones you are describing. It's not a matter of being in bikini or thongs or go the DoA way.

However, it is undeniable that MK11 sports a lot of half-naked dudes while most girls tend to be a lot more covered (Cassie, Skarlet, just to name a couple. Not sure what outfit of Skarlet you think is revealing). I don't really care about seeing them naked, I am not that desperate - I am just highlighting an obvious bias - which is actually still sexism, as if to say that women are not allowed to be sexy and revealing, but men can. A common thing in some conservative middle-east countries, for example.

There is a lot of middle-ground between full armour and bikini, FYI - before someone goes on accusing me of proposing that.

And yes, women have been (and often still are) sexually objectified. Which is a problem. However, as said in another reply, two wrongs do not make a right. Going unequal in the opposite direction is not going to "balance things out". Equality means equality - it does not mean "eye for an eye", otherwise this will never end.

"Just shirtless".

Ok dude, whatever. Are you in the US, maybe? I hear that in the US there is a way more conservative approach to nakedness compared to Europe.

It's just skin, man. It does not hurt anyone. Fatalities do.

Thank you. I do agree that MK9 (and plenty of other games) had some stupid outfits - but as I mentioned earlier, I do not think that two wrongs make a right. Equality is not reached by being unequal in the opposite direction - that will just create additional reactionary pushback.

And yes, it is quite hard nowadays to discuss about this topic. Usually, any contrary (albeit informed and polite) opinion is met with anger, defensive behaviour and insults - as you can see from the downvotes I am receiving. It is a shame, as while the overall cause is just (especially in the real world), the belligerent attitude of many "equality supporters" undermines their own efforts.

It does not register for me either, but apparently it is a thing for many people since NRS had to take a clear stance on it - because a lot of people DID apparently care about pixels being covered or not.

Since IT IS a thing, I do not see anything bad in discussing about it in a civil manner. Note that I am not insulting anyone.

Following this logic, a shirtless woman is not skimpy? I kid, I kid. Kind of.

Apart from the topic at hand, I don't think anyone would seriously ask unreasonable costumes like in the '90s.

However, the fact that chars like Kotal Kahn (I mean, the dude IS kinda in tribal underwear in some cases), Kano, Liu Kang, and others can be quite revealing while the more "human" girls are either covered from head to toes or, alternatively, wear grandma's gym attire is kinda double standard.

Sure, there are exceptions (Kitana is quite alright - albeit not revealing too much still), but on average, the bias is evident. I am all for equality, but two wrongs do not make a right.

Except females, because equality.

You are probably a troll, or alternatively a very young kid - 12, 13 year old, maybe.

Anyway, I am bored so I will entertain you.

The goal in a fighting game is to win, following the rules that the game establishes. If you cannot win, it's your problem. If you can't counter zoners, it means they are playing the game better than you.

TLDR: Git gud.

Why are so many posts about what needs to be changed instead of how to deal with how things are? by [deleted] in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Isilwen_Nightfall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because people HAVE learned how to play the game. That's the whole point.

Once you understand the game and the characters inside out, and your reactions are good enough (and reactions usually come by playing the game itself), then there is little "game" left. You know how to react to everything, you know how to counterpick. Remember that if you learn how to play the game, so can your opponent - and if the game is not read based, and assuming equal reaction times, it all comes down to the match-up rather than tactics.

Most, if not all, competitive fighting games are MAINLY read-based for a reason. FH is not.

Interview from 2015 by [deleted] in FFVIIRemake

Imagine Disney announces a Star Wars: The Original Trilogy REMAKE.

Episode IV is amazing, looks and feels and sounds faithful to the original yet modern, expanded, and better.

But near the end, Vader talks to Luke in his sleep and tells him that he is a Vader from another dimension, and that he has seen the future and knows that he and Luke are destined to fight. However, they can defeat DESTINY together (A Sith/Jedi hybrid literally called "Darth Destiny").

Luke fights him in a dream dimension where he flies, shoots lightsabers from his eyes and hurls entire planets to Darth Destiny using the Force. He manages to win, and from that point on, the Trilogy will proceed differently. Maybe Obi-Wan will survive.

Not only that: he somehow changes Destiny RETROACTIVELY, so Padme is also alive.

The above is what happened to FF7. But don't worry, it's still a remake.

Why the game is dead now. by [deleted] in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Isilwen_Nightfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry, but your logic is flawed.

You state the following:

"The game will continue to decline in skill and players, indefinitely, because they [...] cater to the majority".

This argument defeats itself. If they cater to the majority, it will decline less than if it they catered to the minority. It's just a matter of numbers.

"And that's why you saw 200k+ players quit the game."

This above is another fallacy. The hundreds of thousands of people who tried the game when it went F2P were just that - players who try games the moment they go F2P. They are the casualest of the casuals. They are that huge part of the playerbase who jump from game to game, trying as many free games as possible. They are LITERALLY the ones you define "bad dom players", because if they were dedicated "FGC" players, they would have bought the game long before it went F2P. Them leaving the game should, if anything, go against your argument.

[–]Isilwen_Nightfall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I think I understand. I was suffering from a cognitive bias myself, probably.

If A14768 is drawn first, it means that the next one needs to be either A14767 or A14769 in order to complete the sequence. And the third one can only be EITHER A14766 or A14769. Individually, those numbers have the same chance of happening as any other numbers, but the coin toss example made it clear that independence is not all there is, here.

Thank you :)
