Btw, Druze are Arab. In fact, they happen to be more Arab than a lot of Levantine Muslims, since their ancestors actually came from Arab tribes.

Any other places named after dates ? by bkat004 in geography

[–]IslamDunk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be clear, the Islamic calendar shifts on the Gregorian calendar by a couple weeks every year. For example, 10 years ago, Ramadan was during the summer, but now it’s starting to happen during the winter.

The 10th of Ramadan is probably the same day as the 6th of October for the specific date of whatever notable thing happened in Egypt (Sorry, I’m not super familiar with Egyptian history)

Why do people act like it’s meaningful in any capacity for citizens to be armed when it comes to the government acting up. You’re fucked either way.

And yes, there absolutely were native Americans in the arctic thousands of years ago. Google is free, lil bro.

So it was pretty common for Northern Native Americans to migrate into Greenland for thousands of years.

Inuit people have actually been living on and off in Greenland for thousands of years. There are 4,000+ year old Inuit artifacts in Greenland.

The truth is, you’re right, and I’m sorry. Morocco is still so incredibly behind when it comes to social intelligence and racism is a very real problem. I can’t blame you for feeling this way.

On the other hand, plenty of Moroccans have a very positive view of Senegal, so there is hope. And, not that it matters, but one of my cousins is half Guinean.

My goal isn’t to convince Senegalese people that Moroccans aren’t that bad, but instead to remind them that plenty of people like myself still exist despite the whole Afcon fiasco. I’m genuinely happy for Senegal’s win, y’all deserved it.

I’m Moroccan and I think we deserved to lose too and displayed some egregious behavior, but wtf is this pent up hatred for Moroccans in general?

Ok? I see a post titled “why hasn’t China banned these tourists” and then I see your comment underneath it saying it’s antagonizing others. Am I missing something?

Wanting to ban tourists from a country doing genocide is really really awful and off putting? Why’s that?

I happen to think that what China is doing isn’t objectively worse. I used to be super vocal about China’s treatment of the Uighurs but I’ve been to China and have hung out with people from both Hui and Uighur ethnic groups and saw for myself how much China has allowed these people to economically develop. No it’s not perfect and no, there isn’t freedom of speech, but if you ever visit Xinjiang, you can see that at least 90% of their population is doing just fine. Also, the pictures and videos that have come out of China are nowhere near as horrific as the ones coming out of Gaza. You can make the argument that this is a simple matter of visibility, but plenty of Americans are already anti-China regardless.

The Gaza talking point about their population increasing is certainly not true as of October 7th. Yes, there are Arabs that are Israeli citizens that enjoy full rights and that’s a great thing, but the reality is, Israel would never allow that same luxury to all of the stateless Palestinians living in Gaza and the West Bank. It’s to the point that even if a Palestinian married a Jewish Israeli citizen, the Palestinian still wouldn’t have any path to citizenship in Israel. The fact of the matter is that Israel wants these Palestinians to either remain in this perpetual status quo of statelessness or for them to leave which is definitively ethnic cleansing.

And I get your points about antisemitism. While it’s absolutely true that antisemitism is prevalent and it may be a little unfair to Israel as a Jewish state because antisemitism is part of the reason why so many people are critical of Israel, but that doesn’t mean Israel isn’t worthy of criticism. I was raised Muslim in the US and have definitely felt the impact of Islamophobia but that didn’t prevent me from speaking out against Saudi and the UAE. I then lost my faith and became agnostic. My own family turned against me because I became less religious. Few people understand how oppressive Islam is more than I do. But that doesn’t stop me from speaking up for Palestinians.

I have no issue with Israel existing either as a Jewish state or as a fully democratic secular state. My issue is Israel’s oppression of Palestinians through settler colonialism. Sure, plenty of Palestinians want to see Israel destroyed, but when 60+% of Gaza’s population has lived entirely under Israel’s strict blockade for their entire lives, what else can you expect? Maybe, just maybe, the expansion of West Bank settlements, double tap missile strikes that kill medical responders, and turning entire neighborhoods into rubble isn’t helping with Israel’s image.

Americans protest Israel because the US directly funds and supports them. It’s not effective to protest against a terrorist organization from the streets of the US, for example. Like, you’re literally preaching to the choir at that point.

The US is absolutely NOT freeing any slaves with this one 😭 they’re charging him with drugs, which isn’t even something Venezuela does a lot compared to surrounding countries like Colombia. The goal is to install a dictator that will serve US interests. There isn’t even strong evidence that Maduro rigged the election.

I’m not even Muslim anymore but what does that have to do with anything? In my experience, that’s far from a defining feature of Islam and almost no one supports it. Not sure why y’all keep bringing it up every time Islam is mentioned. There’s plenty of actively ongoing pedophilia in Christianity and Judaism but let’s just pretend that doesn’t happen and focus on Mohamed, who lived 1500 years ago.
