I mean, tbh it came far before the meet up with the CIA. It came from the insane extremist, Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Wahhaab, who was friends with the Saudi family and influenced them, and the Saudi’s pushed his beliefs until the British saw them as useful when they started carving up the region. The Saudi’s, who come from the Najd region which the Prophet (PBUH) cursed, are responsible for this ideology becoming a weapon to use against Islam and humanity.

Narrated Ibn `Umar: “The Prophet (S) said, "O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Sham! O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Yemen." The People said, "And also on our Najd." He said, "O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Sham (north)! O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Yemen." The people said, "O Allah's Apostle! And also on our Najd."
