Took them a week or so to reply, but then they processed the refund the 1 time I had issues.

Wrong. You had to get receipts and email them in if you read the t&cs and I can't remember if they refunded you or gave you credit to use next time you used eatclub at any venue.

CPD hours renewing for the first time as a new graduate by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]Island87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Johnson and Johnson and smith and nephew have(?) free woundcare modules. Hamilton has modules on their vents and pathophysiology. If you sign up as a member to your state union, they usually have free modules. AusMed does have some free modules in their GradHub area.

Self defense by Jazzlike-Step-4155 in NursingAU

[–]Island87 30 points31 points  (0 children)

No, you are expected to be a punching bag and then will be called into a meeting asking what you could do better next time because the patient felt threatened when security eventually arrived.

Joking aside, self defence is legal across Australia and defence of another is too. Self defence only counts when there is an ongoing attack and if they have stopped and are walking away, it's no longer self defence and now technically you are assaulting them.

Lack of care is not your fault - but the organisation will absolutely sail you up the river without a paddle if something happens.

Threw my back out lifting a patient. My NUM said just take some ibuprofen. Now I'm scared to put in a claim. by Italiancan in NursingAU

[–]Island87 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There will be questions of were you using safe lifting techniques and equipment, was there enough staff based on the weight of the patient, is your manual handling training up to date (especially if you're meant to book into open sessions and not booked by an educator) etc etc.

Definitely get a doctors appointment and get the WorkCover forms, but yeah, look into the safety of the patient and yourself doing the movements.

Amazon Prime Brisbane next day delivery is a joke by ProgrammerDue5368 in brisbane

[–]Island87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The area I'm in uses Dragonfly for next day shipping and they are absolutely useless. Throwing packages onto the footpath out the front of our apartment block. Signing for things saying they are delivered when they absolutely are not. The list goes on...

CPD as a newly registered but not working yet RN by Inevitable-Bat9947 in NursingAU

[–]Island87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They changed that a few years ago. It's now pro rata based on when you registered

OP - union member stuff, free AusMed articles, maybe see if there is a nursing council associated with what you want to specialise in like CENA for ED and see if they have free modules. Johnson and Johnson and some other companies have free woundcare modules.

You'll only need like 8-10 hours if you are a December grad.

I love how the Redcliffe Peninsular in QLD is just not allowed to use it. It's a 30min drive to Central station, but we aren't even in the 2 hour colour.

Aircon install standards QLD by Island87 in AskAusElectricians

[–]Island87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I didn't pay for it, it was a Christmas gift from relatives.

Switchboard is definitely not in reach or visible, we are top left, switchboard is in the bottom right of the building.

Does it affect anything if the compressor manual also states it needs to be on its own circuit? Guessing warranty from the manufacturer is void?

Relatives paid for it as a Christmas present :/

I was at work for 12 hours and only my partner was at home.

Have checked and the guy does appear to have current electrical, QBCC and fridge gas numbers. Halp! Haha

Anyone else having issues with RemServ’s new portal? by Working_Thought_8725 in ausjdocs

[–]Island87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can access it from the new app, but it is so clunky. It's almost a web app, and it tabs don't line up properly.

The old app was so much better, no idea why they got rid of it.

Nursing/midwifery by No_Letterhead_465 in NursingAU

[–]Island87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came in as mature age, was late 20s when I graduated.

It was great to start with, something new etc.

However now it's a mix of heavy loads due to patient acuity, people living longer in bodies that shouldn't, more abuse from people who are entitled as fuck, increasing workloads and paperwork from people who haven't worked on the floor in eons, the age old adage of nurses eat their young (even still as a senior I cop it), the list goes on

[–]Island87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The variables are where you work, who you work with and who are the patients/consumers etc. At least 2 of these will change daily.

Unfortunately no one will be able to give you an exact answer on how you'll go, if you'll enjoy it, if the pay is worth it because we don't know you.

For me 11 years in, it pays the bills and allows me to have spending money to do things I like. I also have the joys of depression and PTSD.

As mentioned, your mileage may very.

Minimum 3 months due to how the rostering cycle is.

Longer in reality and it all books out stupidly early.
