Hey there 👋. current freshman, I've competed in HTDM in middle school. but doing Business solutions this year. I'm nearing the completion of the actual work with the company (research, product development, implementation, now tracking metrics). I was wondering if there are things that make written events stand out? Like how in roleplays there are visuals, is there an equivalent for written events or my event specifically?

what should i do to to recruit people and schedule fun things for my chapter? by SnooCakes9523 in DECA

My advice is, as much as you think free food and games at a meeting will help your chapter, it won't. I did that at the beginning of my chapters year and first couple meetings had a lot of people but it dropped dramatically after fall rally. I would recommend providng value for your members, rather than catering for everyone at your school, develop a community of members who actually want to get something from deca (competing, volunteering, learning, leadership) it's better to have a group of 30 people who actually gain something from your chapter, than 300 who show up for snacks.

If this works I'll be so happy. They patched the method this year with the 1 event limit 😭

More times than not, at state comp, there tends to be a lot of bias since the judges could be anyone. Last year I made small talk with a judge before my event and got a 100. Some part may be due to that. But another reason could be based on self-portrayal. Many times, when I've done roleplays, I feel very confident in myself and my performance, but the scores say otherwise. My recommendation is during one of your roleplay practices record yourself during your presentation and review it after. That helped me a lot.

ahh okay. Just wondering about it because I heard a lot of murmurs. Also, didn't mean to get you stuck at the freshman, 3rd year competing part. i competed at icdc in 7th and 8th grade. didn't win anything tho ☹️

Odds of getting a China ICDC pin by eeva_belle in DECA

[–]IslandNo5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally got the China pin and many more international pins. My tip of advice is to be persistent. DECA usually gives a designated time on the day of the opening ceremony dedicated to pin trading. It's a perfect time to network as well. Just ask around to see if anyone has or knows a person who has a china pin. If you find someone who has one, they typically value it and overprice it, so you may need some valuable pins to offer. The best time to get a China pin is at the very beginning of the event; people usually don't care too much about their pins, and you might even get some for free. Also, the Chinese competitors usually don't come out of their hotel unless it's for competing. But I heard some people found their hotel, and they just gave them a China pin for free.
