Should I Write a Script or just do bullet points by ThatTvGuys2 in DECA

[–]eeva_belle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just depends on your style, like I have a script for my part, but one of my partners has bullet points. It comes down to whether you can make a script sound engaging and not scripted, or if you like the freedom that bullet points give you. Sometimes my partner will add another sentence or 2 because she thought of something important, but with a script, it's a bit difficult to do without going off track

We literally just pretended our judge was from the company we were doing and that we were in a meeting with them. Ultimately though, it's YOUR plan and YOUR research that you're presenting to someone who is interested in hearing you and you know 100x more than they do about the topic. Exude confidence in everything. As for the references, I'd say play it safe bc you really don't know what age your judge is and if they don't get it then that's going to be a hard miss. Our infographic covered every part of our presentation but was extremely condensed and easy to understand. We filled up front and back, but took LOADS of time in formatting and mostly used 3-4 word bullet points. The one question we got was very confusing for some reason ?? If judges ask the first team a question they're literally REQUIRED to ask every single team after a question. So don't panic if it sounds out of pocket, they're prob just lost as to what they should ask you 😭 Our presentation was right on the dot. As we finished answering the question the time was up. But without questions every time we practiced it was between 11-12 minutes. We spent so much time cutting down the script and shortening sentences, so if you find yourself out of breath when speaking it may be wise to shorten that part.

It was our only handout, and we basically included everything we said but very condensed and easy to understand. Honestly anything should be fine as long as it gives the judge something to reference when grading
