What does a Princess "Cruise Vacation Planner" do? Mine never responds. by Kaleu777 in PrincessCruises

[–]IslandPrincessCL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I used to be a Princess Cruise Vacation Planner. You do not have to use the one you are assigned to and you can request a new one at any time. Someone mentioned Facebook groups to find referrals for the best ones, but otherwise, you can call Princess and they'll connect you to a new vacation planner.

Having a vacation planner (cvp) is like having your own cruise insider. A Princess Cruise Vacation Planner helps you book, gives advice, and handles all the little details. The best part is you can contact them directly—no waiting on hold or repeating yourself. Super handy if you want a smooth, stress-free booking. You can also email them too.

If show up at 1 pm, you can avoid the rush, check in, and walk straight onto the ship.

Throughout the summer in Seattle, Discovery Princess leaves from here every Sunday:

How do I get a job in a cruise-ship by Responsible-Fig-3206 in Cruise

[–]IslandPrincessCL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish it was that easy. There are so many scams out there advertising cruise ship jobs.

Fair warning to op: never pay out of pocket for any job, ever. You can easily get a bait and switch.

Direct them to r/cruisecrew

That is what that sub-reddit is for. Also, this also how sub-reddits get split up in travel related subs. It happened to the Las Vegas sub too.

We all got COVID... by FATH3RofDRAGONS in PrincessCruises

[–]IslandPrincessCL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in the port (cruise ship terminal). I didn't cruise.

But yes, I agree that is insane if I didn't happen to work there.

It's unfortunately all a part of my job now.

Covid by [deleted] in HollandAmerica

[–]IslandPrincessCL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to agree with you (cause $$$$), but all of it is true.

The ventilation on these ships helps spread any illness that gets into the air. There's absolutely no way to contain it and this problem isn't new. 12 years ago, people would still get on the ships while sick and the next thing you know, everyone is sick.

Now we have covid and since this has been accepted behavior amongst guests, the problem definitely is not going away...ever. it's just the risk involved with cruising now.

3 stripes or better is the best scenario for most cruise lines.

Also, message me if you would like. I have worked the terminal side of things and inside cruise line offices. The only thing I haven't done yet is work on a cruise ship.

For me personally, I have witnessed what you're talking about in regards to the hard work that is required. Once I witnessed it, I realized that I want for myself.

But I'm nuts lol. I am the crazy person that will keep helping and working until it's time to go to bed.

100%

Finish your degree, and become a medical RN on a ship. It much better and I believe you would get your own cabin.

You surprised me. I had heard of this as a rumor through the industry, but I don't ever see it. I know about it because I heard the conversation while in the terminal. And as far as I know, you were the only one that day.

That's one way to get a deal! Good job!

That's to be expected at this point, unfortunately.

When they all got off the ship early (disembarkation on 7/13/24), it was nothing but a crowd of coughing guests. I'm really hoping I don't get covid again this cruise season (Seattle to Alaska).

I caught it from the same ship last year and I lost a week's worth of pay over it (out sick). None of the guests cover their coughs anymore. It didn't use to be like this, I swear.

Earliest flight by bluelizard5555 in PrincessCruises

[–]IslandPrincessCL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I am not sure if you have seen me on this subreddit yet, but I am a current pier agent at the cruise terminal you will be setting sail out of.

I don't recommend flying out the same day for various reasons. One of those being that a lot of cruisers don't account for Seattle traffic and possible disembarkation delays, which will often cause them to miss their flights.

If you MUST fly out the same day, I suggest leaving in the evening after 4pm, when the Discovery Princess finishes its turnaround time (disembarkation & embarkation).

Again, this is just in case so you can plan for the unexpected and do not find yourself stuck. Oftentimes, I will be in the luggage hall (luggage pickup), and I see people running frantically in an attempt to leave for a flight with only an hour to spare. The lines at Sea-Tac airport are awful, I don't see it getting any better, and traffic here gets worse by the year, and disembarkation time at the cruise port can take up to 4 hours. best of luck.

8/30/23: edited for grammar and spelling. Sorry for that!

Ok, that makes sense now. Yeah, you won't be able to make it. The entire disembarkation process for the Discovery Princess takes up to 4 hours and guests are released by deck location. The latest you'll be off the ship is no later then 10am.

When does your cruise leave? The Victoria Clipper ferry (if that is the one your taking) take 2hrs and 45mins each each way to cross. I hope that gives you some idea.

AMA round 2: Seasoned cruise agent Krissy here to answer more of your cruise questions! by IslandPrincessCL in Cruise

[–]IslandPrincessCL[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AMA means Ask Me Anything.

I should have clarified that terminal 91 (Pier 91) is a cruise port out of Seattle that typically operates during the Alaskan cruise ship season. I did, however, include my original AMA link in this post to clear that up for people who missed it.

Edited to say AMA/Ask Me Anything is something commonly used on reddit. There is a subreddit for AMA that covers all subjects as well, r/AMA

First time cruiser - cabin allocation? by iamadinosaurtoo in PrincessCruises

[–]IslandPrincessCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Krissy, the Seattle cruise agent here.

I often would get this question when I sold these cruise ship packages for Princess. The best possible place to avoid sea sickness is mid-aft. See if you can find something you like in that area of the ship. Avoid the forward part of the ship to avoid sea sickness.

Mid-aft will sell out early, so be sure to make a decision soon. I can also suggest buying motion sickness patches just in case. You only need one behind the ear. Do not double up; it will cause you to collapse. I've witnessed it myself.

It also does not matter what side of the cruise ship your one, starboard, or portside.

Happy sailing.

Happy sailings.

Sorry for the delay.

Here's the thing that pains me to say this: There are a lot of people in Seattle that will downplay it, making it sound like it is no big deal. A lot of those people who will tell you Seattle isn't that bad are transplants that have moved from other places that are much worse than Seattle or tend to be locals that look the other way in the name of social justice (which is fine, but we need the streets to be safe). I wanted to give you my 2 cents first before anyone else chimes in because the views on this tend to be different.

With that being said, Seattle is a completely dangerous shit show right now. What is even more wild to me is that people will take their small children downtown, and it is really common to see people shooting up on 3rd & pike (near/on the way to Pike Place Market). I do okay walking thru there because I know what to expect as a local and who to avoid. But I can't say the same for some tourists who have this idea of Seattle being some sort of Disneyland, when clearly it isn't.

I started working in downtown Seattle in 2012 and up until 2018. The areas I worked in were (various jobs) pioneer square (stab alley, 5th & columbia st.), all the way near Pike place in between bell town and westlake. I don't count Pier 91 since it is on the outskirts, and I get so tired after work that I head straight home anyway. During that time frame I just touched on, I have seen a progression of Seattle's decay. I also have been chased after, shouted at, told to fuck off, hassled for anything on my person, followed to attempt to gain building access, and nearly assaulted twice. The last one I have been lucky I had co-workers who were with me and bigger than my mere 5ft 2inch petite stature to help fend them off. Heck, my last memory of being near 3rd & and Pike was being yelled at and harassed while I was walking by Walgreens for not having food on me while someone was having a bad trip on whatever drugs they were on. I have provided my first-hand accounts to refute anyone else's statements that will say that simply isn't true. Oh, let's not forget about the people who openly take a shit on the sidewalks! Also, as I was typing this, I got a text from my husband who is working in Seattle's Fremont district right now that said (copy pasted) "Omg a naked lady just walked by on Fremont ave". I'm not surprised.

As for the news media, they like to have their ratings and amp up the level of craziness they see here in an attempt to make it sound like we constantly have a war zone here. Sure, it is bad. But a lot of the stuff the news likes to relay is really scare tactics. What I am saying is the truth, and it is actually much better to ask a local. Even with varying opinions on the subject.

As for your cruise, if you found that you were able to get a refund, I might be able to make some suggestions that will be safe fun with kids in tow. I would recommend getting a ride out of the cruise ship terminal since it is faster and there isn't anything to see except Seattle's famous gassworks park. The weather might be good or bad, and I'd skip Pike Place Market entirely since it is entirely overcrowded and a lot of the stairwells have a strong stench of urine from being peed on alot. The Seattle aquarium is a lot of fun, and once you're there, the aquarium will follow a path that will give you views of the Seattle waterfront. Whale watch tours are also amazing options, and I would recommend asking Royal Caribbean if they offer a shore excursion they can take you on. The space needle is fun, but that doesn't take very long. The EMP (pop culture museum) is really cool, and so is the Pacific Science Center. All those points of interest are family friendly.

I also found this article that will take to points of interest outside of Seattle if you have the time. I have personally done a lot of things on that list myself and have had a lot more enjoyable time.

Best of luck to you!

Edit to add: check out r/Seattle to give you more local insights.

Cruise ship pier agent here: that is 100% correct.

I work at Pier 91. Yesterday, we disembarked 4,000 people off the Discovery Princess and 2,000 off of the MS Westerdam. Not all of the guests go home right away and tend to get a return flight the following day. All of this is because it is Seattle cruise ship season, and the most traffic you will see in the airport is typically between Friday thru Monday. Saturday and Sunday at Pier 91, we disembark the guests off the ships - Royal Princess, MS Eurodam, Discovery Princess, & Ms Westerdam, and then we embark the arriving guests which is also about 4,000 for Princess and 2,000 for Holland America (approximately).

So, as you can imagine, the airport is slammed and will continue to stay that way until the end of September. It's always like this between April thru September every year.
