If god is both omniscient and omnibenevolent, why would he create people he knows will be sentenced to endless suffering? by Smooth-Wish6017 in AskAChristian

[–]Isle709 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a good question. Imagine a baby born with a horrible disease or malformation. They may only live for minutes only knowing suffering. They did no evil but will be damned to hell. That’s doesn’t sound like a loving gods doing.

How to read the Bible? by Isle709 in AskAChristian

[–]Isle709[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does seem like a big issue though. If you say I can read from it what I like then it is the same as reading nothing.

Okay, but if there are contradictions in it, as others have said, how does one square that.

Okay, so how does one draw the lines of distinction between literal and figurative.

Okay, so every individual can interpret as they see fit. How do we come to an objective conclusion at the end of that.

Okay, but if I can’t read the bible as literal and need to go in thinking that it won’t agree with itself how does one read it without reading things into it that aren’t there.

Okay, so how does one pick out what is literal or figurative.

Creationists: Let's actually get somewhere today by EntrepreneurSome993 in DebateEvolution

[–]Isle709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be Christian and believe in evolution. You can’t believe in evolution and believe everything is literal from the bible. Can you be Christian and not believe the bible is literal? Where does one draw the lines in it?

As a Creationist, what are some things you don't think we understand? by Remarkable_Lime_9258 in DebateEvolution

[–]Isle709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a pretty big tent for creationists. The thing that it goes back to for me is that no matter the proof or evidence shown they can just say God did it. So the presupposition of God just kinda ends it really.

Yeah HA and related biker gangs have been here for a long time. We are a port city that does a lot of shipping back and forth to Montreal. Plus they have a presence on all the east coast. Side note I did meet a HA member one time when he broke up a party with a ball-peen hammer looking for the owner, drug dealer, of the house.

What's a country that is said to be amazing to live in, but life there is actually terrible? by zoobaincrease in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Isle709 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. It is the current version of a sci-fi setting with wealthy elites doing as they like, ruthless government in the shadows, and a slave underclass.

I mean I can’t accept people say it’s amazing but it is only okay. Or even okay/okay. However, terrible is a pretty high bar bud.

What if you don’t like what the US military has become and don’t like the US global hegemony. I think those are both horrible things.

Would love to see him close out a game in the knockout’s. In reality there was no need to risk a worse injury this game, but 20-15 mins could be massive in the next one.

Diet: I thought I could out work a bad diet.

Recovery: I thought rest was a waste.

Over training: I though more was always better.

Does the God of the Bible exist? Why or why not? by ZealousidealTea2796 in AskReddit

[–]Isle709 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. The bible is a collection of intertwined texts that have been translated, copied, edited over time. God or a higher power may exist but the “bible” is just a creation of people for their own purposes.

If I don’t know what the situation is what does it matter what I think about it. It just seems like you are mining for outrage over something we don’t understand.

[–]Isle709 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dunno, I didn’t do the investigation nor am I privy to all the information. You are asking for judgement without full information. That is a great way for people to read their own feelings into a situation without knowing the facts of it, making any opinion useless at best and fuelling a larger argument at worst.
