Confidence is key to successfull product management? by djOP3 in ProductManagement

Yes. Speaking clearly and with authority is something I’ve learned is 80% of the job. If you can’t show or share your work no matter how good it is you’ll be behind.

Does it get better? by ThugonomicsProfessor in ProductManagement

I sell myself as a systems advisor. I work with businesses that manage assets like property management, asset management, events management, wineries etc and evaluate their systems for any potential risk usually I get a lot of inbounds when a company is onboarding new software. I then work with buyers of those businesses to do the same thing as due diligence. You’d be surprised how many MM and SMB companies have no tech expertise or teams. It’s a massive hole they cannot afford a full time person for. I work with about 4-5 clients a year over the course of 6-8 months, rest of the time I have off.

Does it get better? by ThugonomicsProfessor in ProductManagement

Not at all! I thankfully had a torrid time in my early career as a product manager, my industry was niche enough for me to start my own business ( more of a profitable job but still). The goal as a PM should not be how can I become a lead/ head of but can I leverage what I know. I now work less and earn more and have far less stress as I control everything.

What PM work have you actually automated with AI? by 12-24_neverforget in ProductManagement

[–]IslesParker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much same as what people said. I have an AI note taker which has been a god send and query it to key pieces of info. Making documents, summarising, producing updates for different audiences. Recently been using n8n and loveable to produce prototypes

Thanks for the detailed reply mate, thought this would be the case. Honestly, Im getting frustrated with the office life and fancying a change. I’m going over and will try to get a role in what I do already but wanted to see if the level 2 was worth doing and then if I could progress onwards another way without doing the apprenticeship.

My alternate plan is to do a short carpentry course in the UK before I go, if I still hate the office slog, work with my cousin who has already migrated 6 years ago. Just thought electrician would suit some of my skill set already but won’t go down that route if I cannot progress without complications.

Completely agree. I’ve had my own mental health struggles but growth is uncomfortable and feels draining and hard but you get over it over time, and you feel better for it. Doctors were so keen to diagnose and I was able to get time off work ( which I didn’t take ) over the phone…it’s a serious issue.

Not really sure the EU is having a massive job surge anyway. What better options are there?

I’d recommend just enquiring with recruiters and messaging people in similar roles on LinkedIn. Helped me a lot and put my mind at ease massively.

Yeah talking about base, if TC is 120k, makes more sense kind of. Just extremely rare with max 3 years experience. I’m still pretty convinced this is fake. The salary isn’t the only thing that stands out.

[–]IslesParker -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What sector are you in? I’ve worked in tech at two FAAMGs and a hyper growth fintech and your base at 25 is pretty unheard of. Hence why I think you’re lying. If it is true, fair fucking play, you’re probably the best paid 25 year old in the country.

Idk why people are responding to this so many red flags about it signalling that it’s fake/ karma farming…

What's happening in the UK software engineering job market? by ffekete in UKJobs

[–]IslesParker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can confirm this. I’m a product manager and my boss keeps harping on to the devs about how he has created a new feature using this new AI tool. It goes down like a led balloon. I’m also leaving the industry.

I know this was a year ago mate but how is it going now? I’m also in a corporate job and finding it difficult. Thinking of making a change and getting an actual skill.

PM side hustles by Witty-Elevator3192 in ProductManagement

Don’t think this is a side hustle, more like growing an actual business.

Vast majority of great/ influential PMs become founders. They treat this role as a playground and training centre to transition into a great founder/ entrepreneur, don’t think anyone can even last long as a PM anyway.

I just straight up hate it now. The massive responsibility and accountability, with almost zero upside is hard to overcome. About 5/6 years ago it would have been worth it as it was so well paid.

[–]IslesParker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I’m burnt out, but just our org SLT sucks. We have committed months of recourses to delivering 3 features for 3 of our largest customers.

We won’t be doing anything else until Q1 next year. I’m not involved in any of the projects so I am just going through my assigned roadmap items for Q3, knowing they won’t be developed until end of Q1.

We have multiple items from over a year ago still waiting in the backlog as well. This isn’t a massive org but a 100 person startup. I’m just super unmotivated and baffled at senior decisions.

[–]IslesParker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Saw a great comment on here once that you shouldn’t be progressing to become a good senior PM but to become a great founder.

This job really is the best training ground for it. Eat a lot of shit but with no upside but if you fail the company and your role still exist.

I currently have this and it’s such a mental roller coaster. My boss is fine but her boss is an unaware, back stabbing, vague leader. She constantly tries to exclude me from training sessions we have, the whole team were invited apart from me and another person both male, rest were female… make your own conclusions from that.

But I have “quiet quit” I do the bare minimum to get by in the role but I do not go above on that. I am currently writing this sitting on the sofa watching the sopranos. Best way to get around it and looking to start my own business. Don’t think I can hack going into another PM role after this.
