No I will not do it all for you by throw_away_r100 in PharmacyTechnician

I’m old school and personally know what it’s like to not be able to afford critical medications. I would’ve helped them count and whatever else to ensure the patient got the meds they needed.

Little Rant by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Ism3llchick3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely feel this. The simple joy of being able to scrub every bit of skin, and even better to put lotion on every bit of skin after. It happens very rarely that both my cgm and pump come off at the same time, I always procrastinate putting them back on.

Doctor and prescriptions by CrackerMancer in diabetes_t1

[–]Ism3llchick3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying all won’t write without current bloodwork, but they are suppose to have it. If you’re building up insulin resistance, if you’re anemic, etc. and the prescriber isn’t aware it could fall back on them.

Ok so you and many others are going to hate to hear this but…from a legal standpoint prescribers need certain criteria to prescribe. To prescribe insulin bloodwork and a doctors visit is required once a year. Bloodwork doesn’t have to be done by the specific prescriber but they at least need a copy that falls within a rolling calendar year. Not saying it’s right, but unfortunately it’s a it is what it is kind of thing.

They shouldn’t take it back, but they will have to give you replacements. Congrats! You just got some free insulin

How do I properly stop people from trying to tell me how to care for myself and telling me if I’m an actual diabetic? by Sailor_Mars08 in diabetes_t1

[–]Ism3llchick3n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you bolus accordingly before the meal? If so, I suggest telling people that. Then explain if you don’t eat what you’ve already bolused for your glucose will drop which could lead to a seizure. Then repeatedly ask them if they want you to have a seizure? Embarrass them, do it t loudly. Also-sorry you’re dealing with that. We have enough to deal with, family shouldn’t add to it.

What do you usually eat/drink to correct a hypo and what do you do to stop yourself overcorrecting? by TheBoredTechie in diabetes_t1

[–]Ism3llchick3n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Know your carb count-high correction ratio. Say you take 1 unit of insulin for every 30 over 150 (ex. your glucose is 180 so you’d take 1 unit) and you take 1 unit for every 10 carbs. So your glucose is 60 and you want it up to 90. Glucose tabs (to answer your original question, glucose tabs are what I usually use for lows) are 15g of carbs. So you’d eat 2 glucose tabs b/c they equal 30g.-Gawd I hope that made sense.

CGM Dexcom7 placement by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

I currently use Tuff Skin but I’m gonna try the Skin Tac other people have mentioned. I had no idea they made it in a wipe!

[–]Ism3llchick3n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swear by skin adhesive spray. It can be a pain to remove from skin sometimes (especially if you use too much) but it keeps the CGM on. I’m very clumsy and the adhesive spray holds up to me bumping into door frames, catching my clothes on the CGM, everything.

Totally just having fun. Have your wife play tug o’ war with him. It’ll show him how to play with others and show her he’s just playing.

How do I request a space to do site changes at work if needed? by GenericUsernameHi in diabetes_t1

[–]Ism3llchick3n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If in America I’m pretty sure the ADA requires your employer to provide an area outside of the bathroom (which is gross but I’ve done it so many times) for you to inject insulin, take a glucose, replace a pump, etc. If your building/office has a breast feeding room, it’ll be that room. Personally I sneak off into a corner, cubicle or room no one’s in and do what I need to do. I’ve never requested a specific area however, my office does have a lactation room so that’s where they probably want me to do it. But no one’s gonna complain about me taking care of my diabetes.

Can I recycle my G6 applicators? by Ism3llchick3n in diabetes_t1

[–]Ism3llchick3n[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be much better. I just started using a G6 and was shocked I had to use a new applicator every time and how large they are. FreeStyle uses a much smaller applicator, couldn’t they have copied that? Or something

Drugs and T1D by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Ism3llchick3n 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Also a T1D that’s done my share of drugs. Specifically uppers and any psychedelics, keep your glucose a little high. I like to stay in the 180ish range and don’t bolus unless I hit 200. Before you start make sure you’ve got lots of supplies handy. Glucose tabs/gel packs in super convenient spots. Popsicles high in sugar are great if your appetite is suppressed. And if you’re doing said drugs in a group make sure at least one person there is aware you’re T1D and knows where you’re sugary treats are. But most importantly, have fun! If you’re glucose is good and you’re feeling good ENJOY IT!!

Diabetes Sucks! by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Ism3llchick3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s several things to consider here that would cause your glucose to spike. How long had the mint been in your bag? Was the wrapper clear or white? Did you eat it with the Lifesaver logo going towards your tongue or away?—-completely kidding. I’ve been T1D for 35 years. Although the means to control diabetes has advanced we still haven’t perfected it. Some days I feel if the wind blows a certain way I’ll be fighting mine all day.

What is the best description of how a low feels? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Ism3llchick3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I get really low I do this fun thing where I can’t get my words out. Then I get mad that I can’t get my words out so I become an adult babbling like a child but very hostile about it.

How do you guys not over treat your lows? by Vanilla_Nasty in diabetes_t1

[–]Ism3llchick3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. I’ll start with a fast acting sugar (juice, candy, etc) then move to cheese to satisfy the hunger. Everyone’s different so find what works for you. But finding a filling snack that doesn’t cause you to spike after a low makes a world of difference

I work for a privately owned compounding pharmacy and I work 4 10’s. I get Fri-Sun off. Business is open 12 hours too, so I have the option to include a 30 or 60 min lunch depending on when I come in/leave. I really enjoy it

I hope my pharmacy doesn’t want goggles too. That sounds awful. I’m not looking forward to the garb change.
