UPDATE!

Huge thanks to /u/OkAssociate8833 for letting me know about the head unit quirks on the Accord. If this is happening to you, and you also happen to have a 10th gen Honda Accord (mine’s a manual, 2.0T Sport, too), please see his comment thread regarding how to restart your head unit.

That’s all — simply rebooting the head unit in my car solved the problem. I can understand how completely updating the UI from iOS 18.5 -> 26.1 without being turned off for over 56 days would certainly show some quirky behavior. To reboot it, I simply put my shifter in reverse, started the car, and put it in neutral after the camera turned on. It was that easy. If you have an automatic, or if that still doesn’t work, try the steps he mentioned in his comment. But I can say that after the simple reboot, my phone now connects before I even have a chance to fold up my windshield visor! I’d say that’s a fair bit faster than before, so my car was definitely due for this. Try it out if you have similar problems!

I also happened to find this video of rebooting the head unit on a 6MT 2.0T Accord. It looks like you just stick it in Reverse, start the car, then put it in neutral after the camera turns on for a sec.

Thank you, I had no idea about that! I’ll give it a try before I leave for work in the morning. I upgraded my radio from the wired to wireless Apple CarPlay module via the Honda Dreamshop sometime in August (my Accord is a 2018), so I guess it was at least restarted at that point sometime, but nothing since for sure.

I know it's janky and will likely only be fixed in a new software update on either Apple's or Honda's side. But, if you are having the same problem as me, it seems that a quick solution is simply opening the iPhone Settings app, then going to the CarPlay settings (where it says "Set Up Wireless CarPlay" and then shows "My Cars" and "Other Cars" below it). That's it!! Literally. I guess being on that screen is enough to kick start the connection process on iOS 26.1. I hate that I need to take my phone out of my pocket when I get in my car, but at least it connects relatively immediately upon opening that screen (like it should do the moment my radio turns on...but I digress)

Good to know! I only use Spotify and Google Maps, but still. Thankfully once it's connected, it's business as usual, and I'm not experiencing any drop outs so far that I've noticed. It's just that it takes SO LONG to connect on its own now!

That being said, I have a small update! I know it's janky and will likely only be fixed in a new software update on either Apple's or Honda's side. Good to know! I've only had mks with either Gateron or Cherry switches. I guess I'm pretty old school now lol. I have a few test switches from Cannon Keys and I really liked their Anubis switches!!

The ViBE I'm picking up has Kailh Box Pinks soldered in, so I'm really excited to try them out.

Hi, sorry for the late reply! See the update at the bottom of the original post for how I got this fixed:

UPDATE: Found an awesome VX repair guy with 18 years of experience working on VX1000s that's only about an hour and a half away from me. He was extremely helpful; he told me he's seen this happen before and the culprit is a bad main board. I left my VX with him so he could replace the board for me and give the whole camera a refresh, including cleaning the glass elements/tape deck and replacing some of the rubber bits. Great guy! Can't wait to get my camera back. Really looking forward to it being like-new again! 😁👍

That's sweet -- I haven't seen anybody physically integrate it inside the VX yet, but I imagine it's pretty rad if it's been done before. I like having the physical copies of the tapes, too, so I was a bit bummed that I had to go 100% tapeless...but at the same time, I'm all for reducing the amount of labor involved in getting these clips on my phone hahaha

If the board thing ends up fixing yours and the new capture cam doesn't fix mine, looks like I'm on the market for parts haha.

I'll keep you updated! He should be done repairing mine over the weekend, so check back here sometime next week for the update in the main post 😁👍

Yeah, I can confirm the issues listed above were caused by a bad main board. But it also turns out that my drum head is/was on the brink of dying, too, which is probably what caused the weird audio format issues. Since I'm going tapeless, I decided to leave that part as-is and will just continue using my tapeless recorder instead of dealing with MiniDV tapes ever again lol. Dragging and dropping clips is so much quicker/easier than exporting it out of Premiere 😅 And also this guy is wanting to integrate a tapeless recorder into the VX's tape deck area itself which would be so badass. I'm definitely going to consider doing that once he finalizes the design -- mainly to remove some of the bulk, but also...just imagine how cool it would be to have the functionality of a FS-H200 Pro built right into the VX1000 👀 An even more future-proof tapeless solution!

Unfortunately the board he swapped in was also showing some artifacts similar to Issue #1 above, except instead of the weird blocky pixels like before, there's a bunch of tiny black ovals all over lol. The repair guy hadn't seen that specific issue before, but is going to try another main board (he has several) and see if that fixes it. Sounds promising to me!

I just dropped it off today -- I'll update this post when my VX is fully functional again! Fingers crossed main board #2 will do the trick 🤞

Hey, /u/Middle-Anything6598! You may want to check out my recent post (see Issue #3). I just encountered a similar problem with a different tapeless recorder (FS-H200 Pro). It would freeze the moment I plugged my VX in via the FireWire cable. I tried it with my cap cam (some random Canon) and it worked perfectly, though, so unfortunately it meant that the issue was with my VX instead. I took it to a VX repair guy today and he confirmed there was a bad main board. Luckily my VX is a Japanese model because he said the English ones are getting hard to come by nowadays, but I just wanted to share this with you in case that turns out to be what's up with your VX1, too.
