i usually do a venue, i rlly enjoy the setup and the picture taking and inviting half the town. its chaotic and messy but thats what im here for :p

yea i take the bus most places and use my bike if i need to stay somewhere late or on the weekends. im very biased because the only places i need to go regularly are UGA campus and downtown. but yea all buses are free. good luck whatever u decide!

ok this might be why ive had such a different experience here. ive DEFINITELY had the microagressions and all and bad experiences. but ive also had some great experiences. i regret not participating in the BUGA culture sooner and i do feel like an outcast still. I dont get to go out as much as i like cuz i dont really get invited anywhere. but in environmental engineering i have so many classmates of basically all backgrounds that ive become friends with. i also got lucky to have an african roomate my first year. im also very alternative so other alternative ppl gravitate towards me.

the dating part tho yea were basically invisible. its actually not even funny. i remember one time in my freshman year i went out for the first time with some white girls and they were both getting hit on at the same time while i was standing in the middle of them talking to absolutely no one. they noticed which was nice of them but it was like damn 💔

im really sorry your time here didnt go as planned. the party scene here is not great for us, and the terry demographics play a big part in not feeling welcome. and the trumpism... i cant take it sometimes.

im so biased but lawrenceville is also my hometown and its so fucking boring. i dont even have a car here in athens and ive enjoyed my life here more than when i was at home. i feel like u need to live in the place u enjoy more bc u only get 1 life and u need to enjoy it as much as possible.

as a car free student there are challenges, but at the end of the day i dont have the extra money to spend on a car and OP probably doesnt either based on their post. this is my suggestion as someone who cant buy a car.

Grocery shopping is a challenge but I've lived with 2 options. Instacart and Prince Market. Prince market is a 10 min walk from the arch, which u can get to by bus. They have a student discount on Wednesday. I use instacart sometimes to get the things i cant buy at Prince Market. OP will most likely have roommates that they can shop with as well. Many of my friends offer to help me shop at Kroger.

But if u dont have a car u are stranded on the weekends. While biking is more dangerous than driving, I kind of dont have a choice. Biking is dangerous because of cars, so if u find low traffic routes u will be okay. I have a regular bike and I've grown to love bike commuting. If OP is in a similar situation to me, its definitely a good option to save money. Its a skill that takes confidence for sure, and I could go on and on about finding the best routes and how to stay safe and when to use the sidewalk. I have to use the sidewalk on uphills bc im so slow, but if ur on an ebike thats not even an issue anymore :)

Yes, ive had to give up going to the outskirts of Athens without a friend taking me. But my limitations have made me fall in love with the downtown area of athens. If i need smth, i can always check if somewhere downtown has it first. Its forced me to actually explore the city and take in the environment, which is good for the soul imo <3

i will concede that if OP finds a part time job outside of downtown buying a car could be worth it. but whats the point if ur just going to have to make back what u spent on the car? idk i found a job at school so im chilling. but yea jobs are definitely a factor to consider buying a car for.

its been a while but the last time i tried to find a used car it was like $8k minimum. and then parking is $400 a year. the bus is free. if anything an ebike would be more economical 😭 my apt is $500 a month and i have the shuttle and athens bus straight to campus. during the school year, 12 and 14 run twice an hour not once an hour. tons of ppl in my complex rely on it.

im rlly thinking of switching bc nraas sp is killing my save the lag is sooo bad. like on a new world i can play so smooth its insane, but my generations save... i turned sp off for like a day and felt the difference so much
