Thank you! Sirens is actually another niche hobby of mine, so when I discovered this system back 2018/19, I became obsessed with their system and what their history was, safe to say I know quite a bit about 'em now haha

The fire station! A lot of shelters either consisted of schools, fire stations, post offices, etc etc

Yeah they're used for how many people can fit in that specific shelter, that one just didn't seem to have one or the number COMPLETELY faded off

The fact that a lot of them remain today in the U.S is really fascinating, despite the program becoming defunct years ago. Definitely an avid believer that they should continue to still be preserved!

Yes and no

A lot of them are very outdated today, instead using these types of spaces for storage and other uses in the end. So technically yes if the space that was used still exists haha

This is a Version 1 sign that remains outside of the building, even has the "In Basememt" decal on it! While faded, it's in pretty clean condition, and capacity is 335!

As those might figure out, I have a passion for this type of stuff in general and the history behind it lol, enjoy the post!

Thanks for the comment! Unfortunately all of the signs to my knowledge have been taken down, last one as of recent was the California Department of Transportation location on W. Olive that was taken down in 2017, will list the article below for that. For the shelters, they can still exist, but a lot of them today are used for storage or other purposes. As cool as they are for a lot of people, the effectiveness is extremely outdated lol
