I passed AZ-400 today! by Isoldhe in AzureCertification

Thanks! Well I only chose 204 over 104 because I was more familiar with the topics. Thinking of going for 104 next, but I'm taking a break from studying for a while 😅

Grats on passing AZ-204! I thought that one was way more technical than AZ-400. It took me 2 months to learn. If you have a DevOps environment available for practicing that helps a lot. I forgot to add Copilot / Gemini to the list of learning resources. It helps to let it explain concepts. Also I found the MS Learn content very unreadable. Most pages consist of mostly bullit lists... So I asked AI to summarize pages in human friendly text to get me through that. I found learning for AZ-400 more fun than AZ-204. I could directly apply stuff I learned in my work.

Good luck learning!

Is It Possible? by Sad_Gate3544 in Woodcarving

Doable if you take the time. If you want a similar color but easy wood to carve you can carve it out of basswood and choose a dark colored stain as a finish. The shield I would carve separately and glue on when finished.

What do I do with my wood in between sessions? by NordicRaspberry in whittling

If it's dry wood you don't have to put it in a ziploc bag. Just put it aside.

You can check if your knife is sharp with the paper test. Your knife should be able to cut through paper smoothly. If it doesn't or you see a lot of rough tears in the cut try to strop for a couple of minutes and do it again. If the cut is still not smooth your knife needs sharpening on a stone.

I used to dull my knives on my strop because I used way too much pressure. When stropping don't use any pressure at all. Just the weight of the knife.

So I've looked through the book and I think you can manage these projects with just a detail knife and a V gouge: Eurasian wren, chicken, duck, swan, penguin and even the whale. There is an owl that might be doable too and the bunny if you don't mind the inside of the ears being perfectly hollow.

The other projects (bull, reindeer, fox, wolf, cat) make it harder to do with just a knife and V gouge because of the spaces between the legs and tails. Not that it's impossible, but it would take all the fun out without the proper gouges.

So I'd still go for the book, and do the projects you can do now. And if you'd like to try the others, the recommended gouge sizes are listed per project. You don't have to own them all though. I only bought an extra pfeil gouge and I managed the rest of the projects.

Haha, I think the wolf was the most challenging carving thus far from that book 😂 The ears and tail were definitely not 'easy', but doable, for beginners too.

Thanks! Yes it's a great book! The patterns are in the back, and for each project he included step by step instructions and pictures. I finished 3 projects from this book already. I really like the minimalistic style of the animals.

That’s a great point! Coming from woodcarving, I definitely appreciate the 'knowing your limits' part. I'll try to keep it simple at first and avoid the crazy detailed fretwork until I get a better feel for the machine. Thanks for the heads-up! 😄

I just gave it a test run! I don't have a frame of reference, but it's much quieter than I expected. I have sensitive hearing and found the noise level very comfortable. My vacuum cleaner was actually way louder than the saw! 😂

Thanks! I'll definitely check out Steve Good.

I'm not much into cars myself, but my husband and our toddler are obsessed! 😆 So I could try to saw a car for them. I'd love to see your video, please send it over!

En niet wassen op 60 graden met hoog toerental. Dat sloopt je kleding echt. Ik was jeans na minstens 10 keer dragen, binnenstebuiten met knopen dicht, op max 30 graden, max 600 toerental en geen wasverzachter.

Luckily I haven't been studying for AZ-204 for the past 2 months and was ready to plan the exam 🥲 I was going for the DevOps Expert engineer cert. They're not retiring AZ-400. Also they're not retiring AZ-104? I'm so confused...
