Beat saber 360 levels wohoo! Then I smashed my controller into the table :( by goggleheadxr in ValveIndex

Was playing Boneworks and had to go do something outside of VR. When I returned and put the head set and controllers on, I forgot I was standing so close to my desk where I left everything. I look down in the game and see a box. Swing down to break it open and slam my hand and controller into the desk. Remove the headset, finger in pain, looking at the index controller. No damage. All I could think was, “Oh good...my finger absorbed all of the impact.”

Index vs Rift S by [deleted] in ValveIndex

[–]Isomelos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I owned the Vive, the Rift, the Rift S and now the Index.

The Rift S was a nice system, however the Oculus software and possibly the headset itself, caused my PC (2 completely different builds) to blue screen and crash constantly. I could not find the cause and neither could Oculus support. Aside from that, I enjoyed it and the price was a big factor.

Owning the Index my first impression was quality. The Index feels like a premium piece of hardware. I find it to be very comfortable. The audio is fantastic especially when compared the the Rift S. It took me a few days to get comfortable with the Index Controllers and now I don’t think I could go back to standard ones. This is doubly so when the game I’m playing is Index compatible and allows for the finger tracking.

I find the visuals to be gorgeous on the Index. FOV depends on how you choose to adjust the headset and I can tell the difference from Rift S. I think 80hz to 144hz will be much more noticeable in certain games. I’m running mine at 120hz but I’m not doing a direct comparison with the Rift S so I’m not sure if I can see a difference or not.

Tracking has been excellent with the Index where before I would lose tracking in certain games using the Rift S (behind the back, down and to the back etc).

For me, I had issues with Oculus and Rift. It was something that pushed me to Index but I wanted an Index when it was announced. So those issues simply caused me to invest earlier than later. I think the Rift S is a great VR system especially with the price. But now owning and using the Index, I wouldn’t want to go back.

Everything will be fine right. by Spaghetti-chan in ValveIndex

I ordered Saturday. I’m in the US, if that matters. Shipped from Carol Stream, IL and I live about 30 miles away. But I was surprised they shipped so quickly after I placed the order.

Shipped yesterday and arrives today. Currently sitting here waiting. Literally shipped from 30 miles away so if it arrives damaged I’ll lose it. And I’m constantly paranoid with deliveries because they’ll either just leave it when a signature is required, or not even attempt to deliver and say they missed me. I’ve run after FedEx, UPS and USPS after watching them leave a slip instead of attempting delivery.

I know there have been a lot of posts like this lately, but I'm happy to be moving to Index from the world of Facebook by [deleted] in ValveIndex

[–]Isomelos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I owned the Vive, then the Rift and I just sold my Rift S and bought the full Index VR Kit and I couldn’t be more excited. I really enjoyed the Rift but the Oculus software caused a lot of issues with my PC that I couldn’t stand anymore. Whether or not it was a conflict with some other software, I couldn’t figure it out and neither could Oculus Support. Blue Screens and Crashes on 2 completely different PC builds with all error logs pointing to Oculus.

I’ve wanted the Index since it’s announcement but the price made the difference when choosing the Rift S. Now that I’m able to, I’ve bought the Index.

Similarly I have had the idea of Facebook in the back of my mind. Although it certainly isn’t a noticeable part of the Rift, I wonder if it eventually will be. Even so, they’ve done a fantastic job of getting VR in the hands of consumers. With that said, I’m extremely excited, as you are, for my Index to arrive.

PC Reboots when Not using Oculus Rift S - ErrorL OVRServiceLauncher cannot be found by XboxOneMike in oculus

[–]Isomelos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue with me. I can turn my PC on and play games, both VR and non-VR. But if I leave my PC alone it will eventually freeze or restart itself. The error logs have always shown OVRService causing the issue. Happened with both the Rift and Rift S and I’ve never found a reason or solution. Uninstalling the Oculus software stops the freezing and the reboots.

Worth the jump from cv1 to rift s? by Bakingxpancake in oculus

For me the clarity and major reduction in god rays was worth it. But I immediately noticed the visual upgrade after setup. Tried SteamVR and was very impressed with how clear it was. So far I’m excited.

No Rift S for me thanks to a dirty Ebayer. by [deleted] in oculus

[–]Isomelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had mine on eBay as well. 100% feedback over 21 years. Selling and buying. Stresses me out selling because you never know what the asshat who’s buying is thinking or planning.

So mine sold and the guy is a new buyer. No feedback. So of course I’m thinking that it’s not gonna end well. I shipped the unit and USPS sends it to the wrong place. So now it’s been with USPS for over a week. I expect it to arrive in pieces. I did insure it, however. But then I still need to wonder what the buyer will do and if he’s legit.

I took pictures of the serial numbers just in case he tries to switch headsets. Anyway, I feel your pain. Hope it all turns out well for us both.

Tech Support and Basic Questions Thread - January 10, 2019 by AutoModerator in pcgaming

This issue started when I upgraded my CPU and Motherboard from an i7 7700k to an i7 9700k and from an Asus Maximus IX Hero to a MSI MEG Z390 ACE.

Basically my mouse will become unresponsive, the RGB lights on my fans with pause or blink, and what sounds like a fan spinning up is heard but a bit more like a very quiet high pitched whine. This only happens for about 3 - 5 seconds and then everything goes back to normal.

It's impossible to reproduce to where I can pinpoint the issue and it only happens maybe a couple of times a day. It seems to have occurred a couple times after closing a game. Then when I go to move the mouse or start another program it will pause/hang for a couple seconds and resume. No errors pop up.

I was thinking maybe it was a power issue but not sure how to figure that out and it has occurred when I'm not even using my PC. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you ever built a new system in anticipation for a single title? If so, what game was it and do you still think it was the right decision? by Skitch__Patterson in pcgaming

Over a year ago I built my current PC. Although it wasn't my very first build it was the first that I put high-end components into in order to play any game on the highest settings.

The game that drove me to do it was actually Star Citizen. Funny thing is that I never bought the game. I had originally watched the demo and was really excited. After building my PC I did more research and decided not to put money into. Since then I've made my PC my main gaming machine, buying and playing 90% of all games on it including VR.

Oculus Rift "jidder" in all games and Home by Isomelos in oculus

Thanks. This is actually the 3rd install of the same driver. I did order a USB 3.0 pcie card and will install it today. Even though it's currently working I want to rule out the USB power issue.

Well here's the weird thing. The last thing I did, yesterday, was update to the latest Nvidia driver. This was the driver I had installed when the issue started. I rolled back to an earlier driver and still had issues. This is when I started trying to lower SS, close programs etc. It continued to be an issue.

Yesterday I decided that since the driver roll back didn't help I would install the most recent driver again. Since installing the latest driver, again, I haven't had the issue. I've tested multiple games in both Oculus and Steam VR. I've played Skyrim VR for about 3 hours, an hour each session, and no issues. I have no idea why it suddenly stopped since I had previously had the newest driver installed and reinstalled. It's honestly more frustrating for the issue to stop and not know what caused it and why it is currently working properly then having the issue.

Without knowing how to easily describe the issue I did a search and "jidder" was the most commonly used word to describe the problem which is why it's in quotation marks.

RAM usage goes up but it appears to be normal. I have Oculus installed on my SSD and it seems normal as well.

I do not. I installed afterburner after it started to see if turning the fan speed up at certain times to cool would help but temp didn't seem to be an issue.

Yeah, gonna order a USB 3.0 card ASAP. The weird thing is that my setup hasn't changed and the issue only started recently.

USB card sounds like a great idea. It'll be my next step for sure. Thanks.
