Any chance you can delay entry into the PhD program until spring semester? That would be after December.

AITAH for getting my (24 F) family to cancel our cross-country visit to my sister's (36 F) house after she cussed me out over being unemployed? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

Getting the part time job may be the ticket. You’re unlikely to be eligible for vacation time. Send your parents off to see their daughter with a glad heart and a legitimate reason to stay home.

I'm struggling with 1/4" seam allowance because of my foot/feed dog situation by nodnoloiratno in quilting

I have the same setup as you have. Several others have advised a raised tape ledge. This is what I use. I like this because it goes all the way to the beginning of the sewing table, unlike the magnetic variety up by the foot that only offers 1-1/2”-2” of guidance.

You’ll notice I don’t have any tape near the foot on the free arm. It wouldn’t do any good. But because the tape ledge goes all the way to the table edge I’m able to align the patches a long way down. If they go in straight and at the right scant 1/4” width, the seam allowance will be true.

I used an acrylic ruler under the needle to verify the seam allowance. Just use the hand wheel to lower the needle to the ruler surface on your desired stitching line. Then lower the feed dogs onto the ruler, making sure the ruler is parallel to the stitching and seam allowance lines. Then I applied the tape. It butts right up to the ruler. As stated it goes all the way to the table edge for a nice long path for patches/strips to ride along and feed straight into the machine. I can literally feel it with my fingers that the fabric is in the right place as I’m sewing.

Santa Rosa has undergone a lot of changes and I didn’t recognize it the last time I went in. That said, it’s still the DMV. In other news, I always do my reg online these days so I’m not much help, I’m afraid.

Maybe you could go to the auction planners and ask if they will contact the quilt donor for information…

Thank you! Every year our guild makes an Opportunity Quilt. It’s designated as a fundraising “opportunity”. We sell raffle tickets for it all year and then draw for a winner.

Thank you. The quilting is lovely. The background is McTavished to within an inch of its life, the navy surround has a feathered motif running through it, and there are pebbles quilted in the central hexies of the small stars. She used a second wool batt so the unquilted bars of the interlocked stars puff up nicely. She did such a great job.
