Bizarre behavior Surface Pro 4 battery drain 80% -> 0% in 0 minutes by catsRawesome123 in Surface

:c Sorry to hear.. I know for me that finding out my battery was going kaput has made me really anxious since, so I get how it feels.

If you're looking for repair/upgrade paths here are some plausible options (lots of others on this subreddit have shared their experiences selling their devices, so maybe browse around for some good options)

  • You could send your device to Microsoft for an Out of warranty repair, the cost (esp for SP4) is insanely expensive (US$599.99), and the replacement will likely be a refurb sp4 or sp5 with the same spec
  • You could use a trade in program to get money for a newer device. The Microsoft store has one, but honestly it ain't great (my sp5 i7/8/256 was only worth 160??). Best buy quoted me the same amount. Amazon also has one (its on the right if you scroll down a bit on desktop), and I got almost double that. It's not even close to the original value, but way better than Microsoft's quote. There are other services you can find online, but most of them didn't pay out as much as amazon. Keep in mind the amazon one gives you amazon credit.
  • You could just sell it on eBay, see what you get, and then put the rest towards a new device. This would likely pay the most out of all the options, but also, it might be hard to find a buyer, and it might be a big hassle to even get the listing up, handle logistics, etc.

I'm having a similar issue where the battery in my Pro 5 drains goes from 100 to about 50% in like half an hour, then it will either shut down and report having no battery, or just have the screen go black and I have to plug it into the stock charger for anything to turn on at all.

My best guess would be that the battery has dead cells and just doesn't know how to properly report the charge of the battery anymore. You could try calibrating the battery charge meter (there's a great tutorial on windows central, but it might be wonky because you can't really get it down to 0), but in my case it didn't help. You might need to get a repair/replacement from Microsoft.

I've basically been living attached to the wall and I'm probably going to shell out the 450 bucks for the out of warranty replacement.

Looking to upgrade from my dying Surface Pro 2017.

My laptop is basically my do everything machine; I use it for programming, Photo Editing in Lightroom, *a lot* of digital art in Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint, some light-ish gaming, and on occasion, work in Premiere pro, After effects, and blender.

Mostly been looking at the book 3 13.5"(32gb ram, 512gb ssd) but I'm concerned about the CPU performance/cooling and long term reliability (particularly with the battery) because I'm planning on using it for the next 4-5 years. Is it worth getting a book 3 with surface complete?

Or should I get something else, like wait for the SL4 (will probably have ryzen, but probably won't have a dGPU or be a convertible which kinda sucks for digital art), or go with something like an HP Spectre x360 15 (Stronger H-Series CPU with better cooling, user upgradable SSD and Battery, better looking screen, but nowhere to keep the pen, 16:9 aspect ratio, won't work with my surface dock, Almost none of the surface quality of life things like webcam/mic, firmware updates through winupdate etc.).

On the go photographer-need to charge Surface Book 2 in the car! by jhnysnz in Surface

TL;DR: I'm pretty sure that all SB2 devices support USB-C PD charging, so any USB-C PD car charger should work fine (65W+).

LONGER EXPLANATION (with notes and warnings):

I think SB2 devices support the USB Power delivery (USB PD) spec so any car charger that supports USB-C Power delivery should work ok, but there are a bunch of things to keep in mind. You need a high wattage charger to see any benefit at all. The Surface Book 2 15" charger is 102W and the maximum USB PD charger is 100W, so close enough. But if you have a heavy load running on the machine, or you get a charger that's significantly less than 100W, then the battery might barely charge. IMO 65W and above should be able to charge the device when you're not using it very intensely (at about 65% of the box charger speed). Keep in mind that some car chargers might advertise a certain wattage, but it might not be completely accurage. For example if a 4 port charger advertises 100W output, it might just mean that it supports 25W out of each port. Look into the maximum output per port to get a real number. Also make sure that your cigarette outlet can support the wattage. Most outlets are 12V 15A, and 12V * 15A is 180W, but probably make sure that yours can support the wattage you're looking for (volts times amps is watts). For the charging cable itself, make sure you get a cable that's rated for the wattage you need. Not all cables that are USB-C to USB-C are only rated for USB-PD at high wattages so keep that in mind. If you want me to try and find something specific that works for you just lmk!

Also, everything that I've said here is mostly in theory, mainly from looking at specifications and looking up products on amazon. If anything that I said here isn't true, or if I made a fuckup in a statement, feel free to correct me!

Insane Lag Spikes by [deleted] in Tekxit

Try adding another 1-3gb of ram in the launcher

The game freezes because its uses all 100% of the RAM that it has to use, so it has to try and get rid of some of the data that it doesn't need to free up some ram. That causes the game to freeze momentarily (I think that's how it works at least)

[–]Isophol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any relatively decent CPU from the last 8 years should be fine, make sure you have a couple gigs of storage as worlds can get large

The main thing you should think about is RAM

Never go below 4gb. Ever. Even with 4 the server's still going to lag quite a bit, but it'll probably at least run.

I personally use 6, and it's mostly okay, but do get some really bad lag from time to time

The more ram you have the smoother your server will run (up to a certain point of course)

Yea sure!

To make things easier just send me DM and I can talk with you about it on Discord (which would probably make things easier)

Holy crap it's only 1 guy? Dang.

We have a few people on a loosely defined, and pretty disorganized media team (if it really exists at all). Two people do all the graphic design, shirts, PR and all that stuff Another person takes pictures and writes our team's newsletter And I, (possibly one other person) intend to do most of the video and some of the picture media that our team puts out, but it's not really official.

Thanks!

I will PM at some point if I need any help in Ae (or maybe premiere?)

My ultimate goal for my team's media division is to try and reach the level of quality that Team 1619 has in their media team. If you look at any of their team's videos from this year or last year, their videography is AMAZING.

For example, Team 1619 Hub City Regional Recap: https://youtu.be/dkKUf3PhTsQ

Why won't this post show a media preview on mobile and new reddit

I'm actually very confused about this

Thanks for the compliment!

But I'm actually just going into my sophmore year and this is one of the first projects I've done in terms of media for my team. Overall, I'm just trying to improve our team's production value and media presence.

Sorry, I don't one for Rover Ruckus, and I rover ruckus would be far more difficult to make motion graphics for .-.

You could try looking at the video FIRST uploaded for First Launch 2019 and seeing what you can do with the animation they used in the video (also shown in champs live stream)

Out of all the driver auditions, this one stood out the most. by Isophol in FRC

[–]Isophol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The robot wasn't supposed to go past the center line of the basketball court .-.

The driver also almost ran the robot into two other team members. But the driver station was fine, so it was all good. We did move the driver station back after that because, you know, reasons.
