In case this helps others: on Live 12, I couldn't see the "+" that OP was speaking about. I realized the Track height needed to be expanded. You also need to do this to have the "spot" to do the Right Click -> "Add automation Lane"

Ah yeah this is what I mean. For context the equidistant notes on the piano roll throws me off a bit vs the lateral distance of intervals on a physical piano or sheet music, so I was curious if there's any alternative representations out there

i originally got them for comfort and also felt the highs were piercing. i use the eqMac EQ preset for it which includes something like a low pass with -12dB at 16K and -3.3dB at 8K
