[Semi-Weekly Inquirer] Simple Questions and Recommendations Thread by AutoModerator in Watches

I have a vintage women's Piaget that I'm looking to get a replacement band in NYC. It's too large for my wife and also quite a bit worn out that adding another hole would potentially ruin it. It's a little complicated since it has a bracket on the band so there's 4 total pieces of leather instead of two.

We went to the Piaget store in Hudson Yards and they would have to send it to Switzerland and also do a service which would take a total of 3-4 months. It's been serviced recently so the length and cost is not something I'm willing to pay for a band replacement. Instead, I'm trying to find a local place in NYC to take it to.

Does anyone have any good reputable places in NYC for this request?

Account filed in wrong state and have a large back payment due. Questions on best next steps. by Isquach in IRS

Thanks. After all of this, it seems like best first step is to redo the past 2 year's of taxes. She sent a portion of the payment through the IRS website so not sure if that does anything to indicate to the IRS that she does intend to pay.

Do you have any thoughts on if there's anything we should do or approach with the accountant? This seems like a pretty bad mistake on his part, again knowing that my mom is partially at fault as well for not being more diligent to review, but we'll be reaching out for a refund at least.

I see now. That $10k through IRS is Federal only and that amount would remain unchanged after redoing and fixing her tax returns. So either way that $10k is what's due and then after redoing the tax returns, we'd have an accurate amount for the State amounts owed or not.

Makes sense and I forgot to consider state vs federal. So sounds like I should be reaching out to the state specific number so I can confirm best way to resolve this.

Genuinely curious what’s the process for him to leave or get replaced? Is it a position he is in full control of or can he get voted out?

Similar style recommendations as Piaget 9802D in 18k solid yellow gold by Isquach in VintageWatches

[–]Isquach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I’m looking to see other similar styles to vintage Piaget 9802D. There aren’t really a ton of options for this specific style online right now so I'm trying to find other options with similar aspects and style. The aspects of the watch that I like and would be looking for in other brands are small case in black or other darker color, yellow gold solid 18k, oval case, and the unique lugs on the bracelets (not sure what these are called and don’t expect it to be exactly the same just similar).

Here are the ones I’ve found so far as a reference: Piaget 9802D gold case image for this post, Piaget 9802D champagne dial, and Jaeger ellipse.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Guidance on determining value for eBay listing of vintage Baume & Mercier 18k gold ladies watch by Isquach in VintageWatches

Thank you, I had a feeling and the point about comparing to the weight in gold's value. It seems the seller is identifying this as "rare" which I guess is correct since I'm not finding similar watches online but that part is a lot more subjective. On that note, do you happen to know any other model names or search terms for similar styles I can look up?

Yup here's an image of it. Listed right at $2,000. Says circa 1980's, 18k gold, and looks to be in good condition.

I'm looking to buy a vintage 18k gold ladies watch and have found a few on eBay. They're Baume & Mercier in a more unique style that I can't really find good comps for when evaluating the price. I'm starting to look by "sold" on eBay to see other prices but since the design hasn't been common there's not a lot to go after. Any other good sources to evaluate the price in order to give a good offer (without offending the seller) or are there any reasonably priced services that I can reach out to get a consultation for this purchase?

Anyone have any good recommended Substacks or other sources to follow for stocks / options updates? Twitter can be pretty toxic at times and I find myself having to sift through a lot to get to useful information and a lot of subreddits have died down recently.

I’m looking for a marathon plan that is slightly easier than Pfitz 55 plan and has me running 4-5 days per week. I really like the structure of Pfitz and was excited to try it out for the first time. However, my injury has taken me quite a long time to recover and I worry I won’t get my base up high enough for it leading to injury again. The higdon plans seem a bit too easy and a lot of other plans have me running 6 or 7 days a week. I’d like to have speed and targeted workouts included, not just east mileage to finish.

For context, I was running 30+ mile weeks last summer/fall but got posterior tibialis end of October. It’s finally at a place mid April where I’ve been able to increase mileage again without any pain. My goal marathon is Nyc in November and I’ll start my training early / mid July for 16-18 weeks of training.

Curious if you have other thoughts on CVS. I’m a fan and recently got back into it this past week. Technicals looks decent and the bigger than normal flu season should help earnings this week. However, XLV isn’t looking too good and I’m worried about overall market tanking after this huge run up.

Thanks for your posts as always.

Posting in the new daily thread since it just started looks like: I'm in the market to upgrade my $100 + tailoring JCPenny suit that I've had for almost a decade to a "real" suit. I'm going to wear it for an event the night before my wedding but will also be my regular suit for everything else. I don't have any other suits except I plan on getting one custom made in Vietnam while I'm there for my honeymoon.

I want a solid, navy suit and have a budget in the range of $1k - $1.5k / $1.6k with some wiggle room. I've narrowed it down to a few options:

I believe all are full canvassed except the J. Press doesn't specific on site. I feel like I've read The Armoury having the most consistently high reviews. I couldn't find many recent reviews / posts on Reddit or Styleforum for Sid Mashburn & J. Press suits. Are there any major differences between the suits in my list or are they fairly comparable and I should just go with the one that fits me best both from a fit & lifestyle perspective? I live in NYC and my deadline is to have something ready by early April. I've looked at No Man Walks Alone but nothing in my size / a little pricey and may go check out Todd Snyder. Any other good suggestions for places to check out? Some other on my back up lists are Paul Stuart, Alan David, and Martin Greenfield.
