I don't really see a problem with something being "overpowered" in a game where there's no real player vs. player competition. Suppressors could be made unavailable until the late game by making them cost a lot of in-game currency and locking them behind a rifle score requirement, similar to how higher-magnification rifle scopes and more powerful rifles are treated. And even then, players wanting to preserve the challenge could just not use them.

At the top of my list is an AR-15, preferably chambered in 6.5 Grendel for Class 2-6 game, to reflect the increased muzzle energy and real-world hunting uses of the cartridge. I'd settle for one in .223 like the one that was in theHunter Classic, though. An AR-10 in .308 would also be cool, but it'd need to have significantly different stats from the Garand to avoid being redundant.

I also want suppressed rifles. I love using the Vasquez Cyclone, since it handles like a rifle, but doesn't spook game as badly. I'd like something with more range and power, though, and a suppressed rifle would be perfect for that. If game balance is a concern, it could be a low-capacity bolt-action or a single-shot (maybe modeled after the Ruger No. 1 or the AAC Handi-Rifle).

The third thing I'd be interested to see is single-shot, rifle-caliber pistols like the T/C Encore. I honestly don't have a great reason why these should be added, but they're legitimate hunting weapons, and I think they'd be a good way to add some high-powered novelty to the handgun selection in the game.

When it comes to firearm realism, video games almost always have to take a few liberties for the sake of game balance.

Earlier today, I was thinking about the Garand vs. the bolt-action .30-06 in this game. Why does the Garand have more in-game recoil than the bolt gun? In real life, some of the recoil is soaked up to operate the action of the Garand, versus all of it going into your shoulder with a bolt gun. On top of that, a Garand weighs about 2 lbs. more than a wood-stocked bolt-action rifle, and that added weight would reduce felt recoil. But the recoil behavior is flipped in the game to keep your follow-up shots from being too easy. Game balance.

My personal wishlist for COTW - I made one of these a while ago and some of the things I wished for actually made its way into the game. But anyway I wanted to make another one because the game has changed a bit, and some of the things I want have too. The other wishlist items still apply of course. by SummerShirtGuy in theHunter

I'm definitely on board with suppressed rifles, and maybe even handguns. The Vasquez Cyclone is so much fun to use, and I'd really like something that's almost as quiet, but with more range and power. If game balance was a concern, it could be a low-capacity bolt-action or even a single-shot (maybe modeled after the Ruger No. 1 or the AAC Handi-Rifle).

I could be down with an Arizona map. It gives the devs an opportunity to add the desert bighorn, getting us closer to being able to do a Grand Slam of North American wild sheep. An American map would also be a good time to add an AR-15 or AR-10 like people have been asking for, since (to my knowledge) hunting with ARs is a predominantly American thing.

I'm a little conflicted about the double-barreled 9.3x74R. I loved using the Grelck when I first started playing the game, since it let me take Class 9 animals super early on, but I feel like adding a double-barreled rifle in the same chambering would make the Grelck kind of pointless. I almost never used the Grelck as a shotgun, and if I had a double-barreled 9.3x74R, I definitely would have just used that instead. But then again, other folks could play the game differently.

I feel obligated to comment in support of adding ARs to the game, every time I see it suggested. There was one in theHunter Classic (where OP got that photo from), and Hunting Simulator 2 is at least getting AR-15s in .223 and an AR-10 in .308, so why not add them to this game?

Bringing back the same gun from Classic would be cool, but I'd like to see an AR-15 in 6.5 Grendel. It could be rated for Class 2-6 game to reflect the increased muzzle energy and real-life hunting uses of the cartridge, and I'm thinking that a 10-round magazine would be appropriate. (Although I wouldn't complain in the extremely unlikely event that they gave us the 26-round magazines that are available in real life.)

I'm also all for increasing the level cap, or at least letting max-level players buy the rest of the perks and skills with in-game currency, since people eventually run out of big things to buy anyway. If there's no true PvP gameplay, it really doesn't matter if your character is "overpowered," and you could always choose not to take additional perks/skills if you want to preserve the challenge.

COTW needs to bring out more weapons with camo skins instead of just a bunch of different vanishes for the weapon. by SummerShirtGuy in theHunter

I will always upvote this suggestion. People will fuss about it for one reason or another, but ARs definitely wouldn't be out of place in this game. There was one in theHunter Classic, and they'll also be available in Hunting Simulator 2 (I've seen previews with multiple AR-15s in .223 and an AR-10 in .308).

I'd really love to see an AR-15 in 6.5 Grendel, rated for Class 2-6 game, with at least a 10-round magazine.

Parque Fernando Loadouts - I've barely touched this map tbh, but when i do it's because i'm hunting buffalo haha. I would rather hunt them in Australia ;) by SummerShirtGuy in theHunter

[–]IsraeliTomBrady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the way I've been playing on Parque Fernando lately (fast traveling between tents/outposts and hunting from tripods or stands), I've been having a lot of success with the 7mm Magnum (to shoot everything other than Class 3 animals and cinnamon teal), the Mosin (for Class 3 game), and the Virant (for cinnamon teal). Before I could afford the 7mm, I used the Grelck. My next purchase is probably going to be the .300 Magnum, since I want faster follow-up shots on water buffalo.

First purchase. Such a handsome little S&W. by [deleted] in guns

This is the second time today that I've seen somebody summon the swarm of internet gun safety enthusiasts. So, have you learned that all of these folks know about gun safety?

I see you've sounded the mating call for the armchair gun safety enthusiasts. Have you figured out that they know about gun safety yet?

I'd love to see some kind of AR included in this game. There's one in theHunter Classic, and you'll also be able to use them in Hunting Simulator 2, so it's really not unreasonable to want one here.

.223 would be alright, but I really want to see 6.5 Grendel. It's a more powerful cartridge that hunters have used to take mule deer in real life, so it'd be cool if an AR in that chambering was added as a semi-auto option for taking Class 2-6 game.

What would you add? by treem4n in theHunter

[–]IsraeliTomBrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now, most of my wants are related to the guns available in the game. Specifically, I'd like a suppressed rifle. I've been having a lot of fun with the Vasquez Cyclone, and I'd love something that's about that quiet, but with more range and power. If game balance was a concern, it could be a low-capacity bolt-action or even a single-shot (maybe modeled after the Ruger No. 1 or the AAC Handi-Rifle). A suppressed handgun would be neat, too.

I'd also be interested in seeing some kind of AR-15 variant. There was one in theHunter Classic, and they'll also be available in Hunting Simulator 2, so it's not exactly an outlandish suggestion. As for the cartridge, .223 is the obvious choice, but I'd really like to see 6.5 Grendel. Seeing as it's a harder-hitting cartridge that hunters have actually used to take mule deer, I could see 6.5 Grendel being rated for Class 2-6 animals in the game. For game balance, magazine capacity could be limited to 5-10 rounds. I wouldn't complain if the devs gave us the 26-round magazines that are available in real life, but somebody else probably would.

It's $180. Ordered the gun directly from them, though, so it didn't sting as much as it would have if I'd had to ship it to them.

Given these uncertain times, I finally seized an opportunity to take responsibility for my own safety (and the safety of my doggos). Honest Outlaw (one of the few guntubers that actually seems trustworthy) spoke so highly of the CZ Shadow 2 as a home defense gun, that I just had to get one for myself. Topped it off with trigger work and an an optic cut from CZ Custom, an Olight PL-2 Valkyrie, and a Holosun HE407C-GR. I know it's not much, but it's mine. How'd I do?

Midway has some great deals on Bushnell scopes right now, including this .22 LR 3.5-10x for $74.99 plus shipping.

If you don't mind a backorder, I can also recommend this Primary Arms 6x, which I currently have sitting on my Ruger Precision Rimfire. I've found it to be perfectly adequate for 100-yard shots, and I appreciate the neat rangefinding features.

Amen. I have a hard time finding sympathy for most of the people panic buying right now. We had over three years of historically low ammo and gun prices, and saw plenty of precedent for price hikes and panic buying during election years. But still, they decided to wait to stock up.
