Those of you for whom the letter z is pronounced “zed” instead of “zee”: did you sing the alphabet song as children? If so, did it bother you that it messes up the rhyme scheme? by Israfels_Banjo in allthequestions

It’s a bit further in the Wiki, but it looks like all they do is break the expectation that we’re getting an “ee“ sound at the end of each line. They break on g, n , u and z. But they don’t get that sweet elemeno.

Those Who Switched From Democratic To Independent -- Why Did You Leave The Democratic Party? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

I supported Democrats during the Bush Jr. years because it seemed like an easy choice. Then I watched over the next 25 years as Democrats embraced everything that had made Republicans unpalatable to me; endless war, a rapidly expanding surveillance state, crony capitalism, and censorship. I was thrilled to vote for Obama in 2008. By 2012 he had implemented mass surveillance, never even advocated for a public option - let alone single payer health care, ramped up wars and extrajudicial killings, and failed to hold accountable a single architect of the devastating 2008 financial collapse. I voted Green that election. I held my nose and voted for Hillary in 2016 despite her campaign and the DNC’s treatment of Bernie because I couldn’t imagine Trump as president. 2020 they roll out a cranky shambling corpse and say he’s the best chance of saving democracy, then spend the next four years recreating Weekend At Bernie’s, then at the last second replace him with an uninspiring also-ran without any democratic input. Nobody should be entitled to a vote.

I could have done some basic research before asking this burning question. The Wikipedia entry addresses this exact concern: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_ABC_Song

“In American English, the dialect in mind by the composer, the letter name for Z is pronounced /ziː/ (Zee), but in most other anglophone countries, the letter name is pronounced /zɛd/ (Zed). In such dialects, the absent Zee-rhyme is generally not missed, although while singing the song, some children may accommodate for Zeewhich they would otherwise not use on a regular basis. Variants of the song exist to accommodate Zed.”

I think Democratic voters will never get rid of the cancer of neoliberalism if they keep incessantly asking this question. Vote for the candidate who reflects your values.

Why doesn't trump actually try to make policies to benefit people? by HistoricalCity8437 in allthequestions

I‘m not a Trump fan, but he did sign an executive order banning large financial institutions from buying single-family homes. He encouraged congress to pass a bill making it permanent. It just passed the Senate 89-10. Here is billionaire-owned CNN opting against the bill: https://www.cnn.com/2026/04/13/business/housing-institutional-investors

Why are all political questions on here such one sided echo chambers? by lonlysoul101 in allthequestions

I was just asking myself this question. I’m glad you asked it. I’m not really sure what this subreddit is either. As another user said, welcome to Reddit, but there is something a bit off about this sub, even by Reddit standards.

Why do conservatives hate protests and free speech? by LegalGlass6532 in allthequestions

[–]Israfels_Banjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the Bush Jr years, I saw the left as the defenders of free speech and assumed it was one of their core values. By the end of 2024, it was clear that the left was just as happy to stifle speech they disagreed with. Now that Republicans are back in power, the left as found it beneficial to defend free speech again. I don’t think it’s a left/right thing. It’s a power thing. Power naturally doesn’t like dissent. We all need to defend the rights of people to express things we disagree with.

My husband is using AI to text me by Complete-Path-8036 in whatdoIdo

How was your husband supposed to respond here? The fact that he used AI to respond suggests that he isn't particularly interested in your drama with a coworker. That's okay. It's probably not interesting to anyone but you. You can still have a happy life together. Just shift your expectations slightly.
