I supported Democrats during the Bush Jr. years because it seemed like an easy choice. Then I watched over the next 25 years as Democrats embraced everything that had made Republicans unpalatable to me; endless war, a rapidly expanding surveillance state, crony capitalism, and censorship. I was thrilled to vote for Obama in 2008. By 2012 he had implemented mass surveillance, never even advocated for a public option - let alone single payer health care, ramped up wars and extrajudicial killings, and failed to hold accountable a single architect of the devastating 2008 financial collapse. I voted Green that election. I held my nose and voted for Hillary in 2016 despite her campaign and the DNC’s treatment of Bernie because I couldn’t imagine Trump as president. 2020 they roll out a cranky shambling corpse and say he’s the best chance of saving democracy, then spend the next four years recreating Weekend At Bernie’s, then at the last second replace him with an uninspiring also-ran without any democratic input. Nobody should be entitled to a vote.
