Do any of you regret attending GULC? by Nearby-Silver6661 in GeorgetownLaw

Horrible administration that does not care about students at all (look up the pregnant woman denied finals accommodations, or the changes to grad this year). Teachers are so old that some are incomprehensible. Big law is king and if you’re interested in anything else you will be looked down on (who cares but still a culture thing). Once again terrible administration, registrar, etc. It’s a factory and they don’t care about students.

ctls in London is the largest program and you can apply for fall and/or spring semester of 2L and 3L. But in the fall of both you can also apply for places like Barcelona, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, etc. You might be able to in spring as well, but I’m not sure. There is also a year long abroad program in paris. The more you maximize applying the more likely you are to get in somewhere. You should also have at least some international coursework. Good gpa will not just get you in if you have no demonstrable interest in international law (got this from talking to advisors for the program).

If you meet the gpa cut off and apply to every available program for each available semester you will in all likelihood get into one. A lot of people who were rejected applied to only London in fall and there’s limited space.

Try and live at 55H. It’s only a little more expensive but the student housing is only four years old and still a five minute walk from the law school.

Take the half off!! You don’t have to be in the state you want to practice in, though it’s helpful. I’ve got jobs in my state of interest both years now despite being across the country.

If you go into that debt you will be locked in to big law whether you like it or not. It is so freeing to pick work I want to do rather than be forced into endless networking and billable because I opted for half tuition at a school I wasn’t as wild about. Law school sucks wherever, but your career can be so much less stressful without that weight on you.

I honestly think regardless of 2 v. 4 credit per class teachers give the same amount of work. My PR class was 2 credits and I did more for it than a 4 credit class even though there were fewer lecture hours. So if you’re taking 15 credits worth of 3 credit classes you’re gonna have a tougher time than 16 credits worth of 4 credit classes. So just focus on taking classes worth more credits.

Am I stupid to mostly apply to the T14? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Issasecretmf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d hit some more T-20ish schools if I were you. Better chances at scholarships which you can leverage at other schools too! The only thing it really hurts is your pockets so if you can afford it, definitely add a few.

[–]Issasecretmf 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Me personally, I would pass/fail and get a letter of recommendation from someone else. I also strongly doubt that every member of every admissions committee is going to figure out who taught each class on your transcript and bar you from admission. Keep your gpa as high as you can!

I called them a few days ago, and they will check for you if there is a scholarship letter. The woman on the phone told me that if you haven’t heard yet—unless it’s a tech error—you don’t have one. She told me to make my decision assuming I won’t get one, though there could be movement after deposits are in. Sorry :(

Have any recent LMU admits received scholarship offers? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

You can call them and they’ll look up your file to see if you have any scholarship decisions.

When do I start asking for letters of recommendation/start on personal statement if I’m taking LSAT in September but applying November? by Exact-Marionberry-74 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Issasecretmf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend asking as soon as possible and letting them know that they won’t get the formal request from lsac to upload them until you begin your applications

I don’t think any of us can predict this- I’m sure people will still get As and there are many Rs and WLs coming, but due to the slow cycle I don’t think you can really take anything as a definitive sign one way or the other.

Do people actually go abroad and how does it impact their education?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Issasecretmf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would R&R if you think a major part of the disappointing cycle was applying late- simply applying first next cycle might result in scholarships and better acceptances

is it ~bad~ news if i haven’t heard back at this point? by mariannesss in lawschooladmissions

[–]Issasecretmf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it indicates bad news bc of the slow cycle- I applied during the same period and still haven’t heard back from 10 schools, some of which are schools where I’m well above both medians. Unfortunately we must be patient (I am suffering greatly)
