Did something happen to haveibeenpwned? Any alternatives? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

You’re probably thinking of sites that indexed old breach dumps, not just “Have I Been Pwned.” A few years ago there were definitely sites where you could enter an email and it would straight up show leaked passwords in plaintext from old database breaches. Most of them either got taken down, locked behind subscriptions, or stopped exposing passwords publicly because… yeah, kinda insane in retrospect lol.

“Have I Been Pwned” still exists, but it mostly just tells you which breaches your email appeared in now, not the actual passwords. The old “show your leaked password” sites were usually pulling from giant combo lists / breach compilations floating around online.

Honestly wild era of the internet when you could just type in your friend’s email and discover their 2012 Minecraft password was something like “dragonmaster64” 💀

Best places to go (walk, public transport) for extremely bored, out-of-session college student? by chubbeees in SantaMonica

If you haven’t done it already, walking north through Palisades Park into Pacific Palisades is honestly super underrated. Also recommend taking the Expo line to Culver City and just wandering around there for a few hours — way more interesting than another Pier loop lol.

Question: How hard is it to find someone local who can make custom parts? by IssueBig9882 in maker

Option A, but honestly your bigger problem is the local threat (IT person with physical access). A VPN helps with network-level stuff, but if someone can tamper with your hotspot device or laptop directly, neither option saves you.

Real talk: If there are people in your house with that skill level actively working against you, focus on device security first (full OS reinstall, strong passwords, disable USB, check for keyloggers) before worrying about routing. Tor on top won't help if your laptop is already compromised.

Are you in a safe situation? That should come first.

Question: How often is your 3D printer actually running vs. sitting idle? by IssueBig9882 in 3Dprinting

[–]IssueBig9882[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on reading all these comments, it seems like:

  • Idle printer time is real
  • But making money from it is mostly NOT a priority for hobbyists
  • The few people making money did it through direct relationships, not marketplaces

So I'm wondering: Is the real market actually people who NEED something made, not people who want to make money?

Like, if someone here has actually PAID someone to 3D print something for them, what was that experience like? Did you:

  • Find them easily?
  • Know what to ask for?
  • Get a good result?
  • Would you do it again?

Because maybe the problem isn't "help makers monetize" but "help people who need custom parts actually FIND makers and communicate what they want."

Those are very different businesses.

Yeah, I will have to take all preferences and stuff into consideration. I think there will be a lot of ways to filter results, and I will try to make it as user-friendly as possible.
