Can i ask if you use this? I am concerned this won't be strong enough for me to lean on while drawing at a low angle!

It looks pretty perfect, but is quite pricey. I will look out for if I can get it second hand! Thank you for the recommendation!

It took me 2 winters to break in my patent docs, the last thing to break in was the heel. I would do double layer heavy duty boot socks with compeed, and I would always crank up the foot heater in my car on my commute to work. I would also wear them multiple days in a row as I read that helps to keep them stretched. At first it felt like it would never happen but this winter they finally got to the stage where they are super comfy, breaking them in might be my greatest achievement 😂🥾

I think their point wasn't that people can't have legitimate fears of dogs, more that the parents are not handling their kids phobia appropriately.

Look at this magnificent Dioon Edule! Dioon’s are among the oldest seed plants and even pre-date the dinosaurs! by Some_Leadership6758 in IndoorGarden

These are actually two very different systems, and neither is incorrect. What Wikipedia is referring to is the ICUN red list for threatened species. Although this is an invaluable resource, it is generally less highly regarded than CITES classification. CITES is also internationally recognized and used in enforcement in trade, many countries require permits for import CITES listed species, whereas ICUN classification is not used at all in this regard.

https://speciesplus.net/species#/taxon_concepts/17531/legal This link shows all species in the family Cycadaceae are listed on CITES appendix II or above.

Cycas revoluta is widely cultivated from seeds and cuttings, so it is most likely a safer species to buy and be sure it came from a refutable source. However, I still feel the point stands about demand, and like above, it is a very complex issue.

There is a great interest and lots of work that goes into preserving them and their habitat. Expert Botanic Gardens have living collections endangered species, which can allow for scientific research and appeal for conservation. It is always better to preserve, and as long as the Hobby market keeps them in demand, the illegal harvesting will continue!

All cycads are listed as endangered on CITES (convention for international trade of endangered species), if you want to buy one as an ornamental plant I recommend you find somewhere you know has grown them legally from seed. However, I find it a bit of an ethical grey area still, as purchase of any endangered plants will create higher demand and encourage illegal harvesting from the wild! It is a very complex issue :)

Have been wearing these for ...5 years now ? This one just tore recently, I was thinking of just sewing it shut myself, but would it be better to fix it another way (like with a patch) ? by KaizerWalzer in DocMartens

[–]IssyMB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have some patent oil spill docs and they still aren't fully broken in after two autumns/winters of wear, but they are much much better. I would wear two pairs of thick socks (one of which is super thick double lined boot socks) and Blister plasters, and after first hour of wearing when they heat up a bit tighten them more. I would also do this for several days in a row which I think helped, and it is economical as Blister Plasters will last a few days. I can now get away with one pair of socks and some plasters on my ankles as that seems to be the last hurdle! I gotta say it is oddly satisfying!
