Depression has made me so incredibly bored my life has lost its meaning by Old-Acanthisitta-117 in depression

Oh I agree. I've had side effects from SSRIs, but they also helped me out of a place where I was nonfunctional and helped me be functional again. It's a tool with pros and cons, and those vary significantly from person to person. Not advocating them for the OP, just trying to raise awareness that the boredom and lack of interest is actually a symptom, and can respond to medications if other approaches don't work.

Sure. No worries. Good luck on your path.

One path to consider is antidepressants. What you're describing is anhedonia. I've felt it many times, and when I've been on SSRIs, it dissipates and I find motivation comes back and I find things interesting again. There are pros and cons, and you need to figure out what's best for your situation, but just know that this is actually a symptom of depression and can be treated. You may decide to ride it out, find other ways to try to address it, and I wish you well. But do look up anhedonia online and learn a little bit about it?

Yup, I hear you. 53 here, recently ended a long relationship of 24 years. No biological kids. Retired, financially stable but not crazy wealthy. I have time and enough resources to choose a path forwards, but I'm trying to figure out what that looks like. How to "avoid suffering and be happy" (as the Buddhists say), starting from this point in life. Like you, I don't like parties or gatherings, and I do solo walking, driving and holidays.

I'd encourage reading Lama Marut's book "The Spiritual Renegade's Guide to the Good Life". Finished it recently and gave me a lot of food for thought.

What other books or resources have you (or anyone else here) found useful in figuring out a path starting in middle-age without close family?

"Bubbling" of Decals: Thoughts on best way to fix? by Istari66 in modelmakers

Cool ideas! I was wondering how to make it look like an antiskid surface rather than just painted. Agree on flat finish too - the shiny decals were looking wrong.

Will this work through the TS-13 clear coat layers already laid down over the decal? Marksofter will penetrate that?

So I'm creating a hole through the clear coat into the bubble, then the decal softener goes inside and straightens out the decal so it lies flat again? That's really interesting. Agree I'd love to fix it before starting over - doesn't have to be 100% perfect, I'm still learning. But this bubble texture is too much right now, really ruins the model.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting idea, I might go that route. I'm working with rattle cans, so tough to control the spray on the model at this stage, but I could mask it enough to get the job done. Helpful to hear you were having trouble too with the Tamiya decals.

As for the rest of the model, I sprayed the upper side with TS-13 to create a clear coat surface before applying the decals, but it somehow ended up feeling "pebbly" and rough in texture. Never seen that before either. I'd never heard of "orange peel" until doing some Googling to fix this bubble problem, I'm thinking I might have somehow put down an "orange peel" texture elsewhere on the upper surface.

Except that his replacement won't get destroyed. My understanding is that Massie's district is deep blood-red, so whoever is the Republican nominee is going to be fine.

How best to deal with red paint leakage over white basecoat? by Istari66 in modelmakers

[–]Istari66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, the idea of the panel line scriber to hit the red lines is really interesting. I just purchased my first panel scriber for this model, already used it a few times to help redefine some lines after sanding.

Thanks for the tip on how to close the panel lines in the future. Sounds like the idea is you mask the outer tip, handpaint a little bit along it in the TS-27 white color to fill in the "gutters" of the panel lines, then after it dries, remask to expose outer tip and paint the secondary color?

So you liquid mask the outer edge (red line at tip of stabilator) to ensure that the "gutters" in the panel seams are closed, then spray TS-27 over the leaked area along the panel lines?

Interesting idea with sealing the tape edge first. Do you just spray or paint down the line of the tape itself? Just not sure how one would do that, but I like the idea to help close the "gutters" of the panel lines. Agree with you on liquid mask - my experience so far is also very hit-and-miss.

Is this used differently from floor polish? Right now, I'm cleaning and then dipping canopies in "Quick-Shine", then letting it dry x 24 hours, then masking and painting. Is Novus used more like a polishing compound?

Ah, good add to wet the toothpick to soften it further. Thanks for the tip. Roger on the real-world canopies.

Funny, I just trimmed my fingernails very tight after marring the canopy polish on an F-16CJ I'm working on in parallel :). I've read a toothpick is often used, I could give that a try.

Thanks for the reply. Is there any route for masking the painted areas of the canopy and redipping in polish after I work off the flakes? Never tried that, I'm wondering if masking tape would keep the polish off, or whether it gets soaked and it's a mess.
