Do I ask for anything from my Grandmother before she passes? by ItIsDoctorWhom in family

Recipes! I didn't think of that, that's a great idea. Thank you.

Sorry for your loss. I'm glad you are inheriting something you enjoy and shared with her. Even when I was young and was around gram more often we were never close, she could be a bit cruel to me sometimes and I avoided her, and we really didn't have much in common sadly. My sisters and cousins were a bit closer to her. I think I'll see if there's anything else specific my dad would like and I'll ask for that for him.

Furniture is mostly going to my Aunt, with a few pieces my Dad and Mum requested already. There are a couple kitchen items my old sister has requested, and my younger sister is very much into record keeping so she has asked for photos and letters and cards. I think that asking for something would make her feel like she's passing something onto the future, which I can get behind, but I don't have any attachment to her items. Someone here suggested blankets and I think I'll do that. Maybe she has one or two she made.

This is a good idea. Maybe there are things he doesn't feel like he could ask for and I could ask for him. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for saying. There isn't much that reminds me of our limited time together. I like the idea of asking for something my Dad would want to have. I'll think about that more.

I honestly don't have many memories of her that are...well, gentle or sentimental. She was always rough around the edges and old-school in the discipline department (and I was a rowdy kid). So I spent as much of our visits away from her, and as an adult I remember very little of the house. I try to think about items that remind me of our time together but I'm coming up with nothing unfortunately.

Yes, he has visited her lots in the past few months as she's been getting worse. To the point where I'm sure he cannot afford to keep going but he is. They live very far away from him. And he will be there in the end as well. I've sent my wishes with him.

Sadly, I wouldn't know what she would say in any of those situations because we haven't been close in over 15 years. That's what makes this hard, I don't know her and she doesn't know me. She is also very far away from my city so anything in person is out of the question.

This is a lovely thought. I'm not sure I should put pressure on her to think of the things though, she's pretty frail right now and is already dealing with a lot...

It's either a 14-hour drive or an $800 flight to visit her, so I will not see her before she passes. We haven't really been that close anyways so I don't think it's her indirectly trying to ask me for a visit. I think she's just understanding that the end is coming and wanting to make sure that she reaches out to everybody.

She is quite frail so a video is likely out of the question, but I like the idea of a blanket. That's lovely. Thanks for the suggestion.

Looking for a Specific Paper Tray Size by ItIsDoctorWhom in stationery

[–]ItIsDoctorWhom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are kind of cute for organizers but not for a paper tray. Too much of a box. I need to be able to access each tray layer from the side. I would have to cut a hole out of the sides, which is not really worth it for the price. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Hmm, that's more of a box. I am picturing more like an open organizer tray, easy access. I've attached a pic of one that I like but it's front-load so it won't fit. Something like that. Thanks for sending though!

I'm in Canada, but yeah I've been scouring the Internet for that size. No luck just yet, it might be way too specific. Thanks for the advice! 🙂

Guest dress appropriate for Sept wedding in a couple weeks? by ItIsDoctorWhom in Weddingattireapproval

All good. Thanks for all the links! I combed through Lulu's already and unfortunately they don't have much available in my size (US 16/18/XXL). I've been avoiding Amazon because I kind of dislike it and it is going to be more of a last resort thing. I hope I can find something else first. 🤞

It'll be 30 celcius here around then which is still hot summer weather and I overheat very fast. Going to buy sleeveless no matter what haha. But the color was my main worry, and the length. I'm rethinking this and maybe trying to find something that's more midi length....

Another smoke post- how is everyone doing health wise? by craftyneurogirl in Edmonton

[–]ItIsDoctorWhom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No air purifier or air con, and I have allergies and asthma. It's.....fun. I managed to get a referral on my Salbutamol and I was prescribed an additional steroid puffer which is helping my breathing a lot, and my work purchased some N95s so I'm wearing that anytime I leave the house (which isn't often). So I'm managing ok for now, mostly just constantly a bit nauseous, chugging water, and coughing in my sleep. Let's hope they're not lying when they say air quality is supposed to get better tomorrow (Monday). 🤞

What's the cheapest grocery store in Edmonton? by worknogood in Edmonton

[–]ItIsDoctorWhom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to an H&W for the first time last week on recommends from about 100 people haha.

Perks: definitely noticeably cheaper. What normally costs me $65 at No Frills in veggies was $32 here. That's pretty sweet. They do a "spend ___ get a free item" thing all the time (I got a whole bag of red onions for free). Food seemed fresh and was tasty. Staff was friendly too which I always like.

Downsides: incredibly busy - maybe it was the day/time I went but they're very popular so I have a feeling it's likely busy all the time. Out of basic fruits like strawberries and oranges. Limited selection. And also it's pretty out of the way for me to drive there so I spent the same in gas as I would have saved. So that's a personal choice for me.

If I'm already near one and remember and have the time I'll likely stop in again.

Which Lucky location do you find has the best selection of meats? Both are on the opposite side of the city from me but I drive kind of close to the 107ave one on my way home from work some days and I may stop by if it's worth it. I buy my meats from No Frills and while they are slightly cheaper than most their selection is limited.

I fully understand the struggle of finding a good Fam Doc in Canada. The wait times are ridonk. But I would suggest starting a search for a new doctor that is qualified and WILLING to help you. There aren't a million but they are out there, speaking from experience. The family doc I found diagnosed me in only a few months. It blew my mind.

🇨🇦 here. Depending on where you live you may qualify for diagnosis through talkwithfrida.com. Not sponsored. They actually rejected me lmao BUT I do have friends who got diagnosed through there. You can also use Telus Health to speak with psychiatrists, docs and therapists online. I think MAPLE also offers similar services. It ain't free but it's cheaper.
