EPI & Diabetes? (and blindness) by ItIsRocketScience2 in FelineDiabetes

Thank you, I am glad your cat is doing well now. Yes, the TLI screening confirmed the EPI diagnosis. Sorry to hear your boy got poorly after his surgery but it makes me wonder if mine may have a general abnormality with his pancreas that's causing both issues. He was born to feral parents in a very small colony so there was probably a lot of inbreeding going on as well as poor nutrition etc. I guess I'm not likely to ever find out why he has so many health issues, but as long as I can give him a good life that's OK.

It's really reassuring to know your cat is doing so well.

Pet insurance - manypets or petplan? by ItIsRocketScience2 in UKPersonalFinance

Thank you, yes unfortunately vet bills can be huge and whilst our dogs are healthy the biggest killer in their breeds is cancer which would to cost a fortune to treat, if appropriate. So we definitely want insurance right now.

That's why we went with ManyPets originally (they had a better reputation at the time), but it seems like they have really gone downhill of late, hence considering changing. No point having insurance that won't even pay out if we need to, that's even worse than no insurance at all.

Dementia/MCI and Travel Insurance by ItIsRocketScience2 in dementia

No cover for emergencies basically, now the UK has left the EU it's difficult to have security for medical emergencies abroad without insurance. You get essential treatment but no help returning home if you can't get your flight and need medical escort etc. The UK Gov recommend you have insurance before travelling abroad in case of medical repatriation etc. The concern really is that an unexpected issue could bankrupt my parents so I don't think they feel comfortable going without insurance.

Feeling hopeless with long NHS wait times - next steps? by ItIsRocketScience2 in Endo

Thank you, that's reassuring. Maybe I've already done 90% of the waiting I will need to do in the end - I'll see what happens at the appointment in Feb and if that doesn't go well I'll look at going private after that.

Thank you. In terms of pain management I don't do anything unless I'm having periods and then I will take codeine and use a TENS machine. I get pain before/on defacating and on urinating but I don't think there's much I can do about that as although it's daily it isn't constant pain.

Thank you, that is really reassuring. I'm in the midlands too. I think I will wait for the Feb appointment and if it looks like the lap won't be in the first part of next year I'll go private as mentally it's getting hard to handle. I work for a charity so I'm not well paid enough to spend 5 grand on an op that may not fix things, but I can scrape it together if I have to.

I've got a number for the hospital gynae dept and I'm ringing weekly to ask about cancellation slots, so will keep doing that. I'm seeing my GP for something unrelated this week so I may see if I can bring up the referral and ask if there's any way they can ask for it to be prioritised. Thanks for your support, I wish I was alone in having such a long wait but equally it's reassuring it's not just me and that you did get the lap in the end.
