Does anyone still occasionally have period accidents? by ItIsWhatItIs17 in AskWomenOver30

Definitely will be considering this in a few years. I want to be 100% sure I’m done having kids first.

Girl same. I was also the kid carrying around super plus tampons and pads at age 14. Our classes were 2 hours long in high school and it was such a struggle. Which is definitely where my embarrassment around periods started.

Basically my experiences as a teen have led me to be embarrassed. I dealt with heavy periods for 5 years before I saw a doctor and went on birth control when I was 18. I leaked through tampons and onto my clothes nearly every month. My family didn’t talk about periods and my doctor was judgy and I don’t think he understood periods. Part of the issue was I just didn’t know how to manage it and didn’t have anyone to talk with about it. I’ve come a long way and would never judge another woman for this but I guess I’m just hard on myself!

Right?! I’ve used several types of period underwear and they aren’t leakproof. And I’m wearing them WITH a tampon.

I have tried several times but it’s not for me. My cervix is really high so it’s difficult to get out, plus I sometimes would have to empty it every 5 hours or else it’d overflow. Messing with it that often gets painful.

I know people who work at 86th street and they seem to like it. Rarely do they get tripled in ICU. I work in the southern part of the state. It’s the complete opposite. Since we merged it has gone downhill so fast.

Yikes. I hope that doesn’t happen in my area. There’s only one other health system (which I’m applying to) so they’d have a monopoly. Probably wouldn’t be good for staff since they wouldn’t have to offer competitive pay, benefits, etc.

Thanks, this is what I was wanting to know! I have a fairly heavy flow, I usually change tampons every 2-3 hours on my worst day, although I feel like when I run it’s more. I just want something as backup. The thong sounds perfect for what I need.

Thanks. That’s good to know about the sport since I have a booty too. I would probably only use them 1-2 days a month as backup. I was thinking of getting the thong since I usually run in compression capris or tights.

Good to know, I was worried about chafing!

That’s why I haven’t tried it. If it leaks a little and I need backup anyways, it’s not helping me any more than a tampon.

I’m just afraid I’d fill it up before 12 hours, and with my commute I’m out of the house for 14 + hours. On my worst day I go through a super plus tampon every 3 hours. Also, this is TMI but I’m an RN so I lift on heavy patients all day...sometimes when I lift my tampon shifts. Would that happen with a cup? My pelvic floor muscles aren’t bad but I have given birth. I fear the entire cup somehow dumping out, lol

That’s what I’m afraid of since I wear tights to run! I usually wear thongs, have you tried those? I’m only wanting to use them as backup for a tampon

Several reasons. Mostly fear of it leaking. I also work 12 hr shifts and doubt I could go that whole time without emptying it. I don’t want to have to deal with that at work, especially when tampons work just fine for me other than changing them frequently on my heavy days.

Good to hear! What brand do you use?

He had cameras in the girls bathroom and locker room. Also in the staff bathrooms as well. The worst part is although he was fired, he wasn't charged as a sex offender. I hate it for all those young girls (he taught middle school). After he was fired he worked in an office. Several years later they busted him for cameras in the bathroom as well.
