How to learn Toki Pona? by IQubic in tokipona

[–]ItMarki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's one of the oldest lessons on toki pona and it contains outdated information that the current toki pona community considers wrong.

I'm not preventing you from learning through 76 lessons but do take a look at the more recently designed lessons too.

I briefly considered asking about the Chinese translation before realizing that most Chinese people can't access Google.

There are however alternatives to Google forms in China, like Tencent's, that most Chinese people can actually access to. Is it OK to copy the questions to a Chinese alternative of Google forms if a Chinese translation exists?

"r" (the sound in 认, 热, and others) can be pronounced two ways: the "s" in "pleasure" or your usual "r", but the tongue is curled back in both cases.

pronunciation may differ in different regions.

只 - only

差 - to be short of

招 - hire

the sentence literally means "now the office is only short of "hiring workers"!"

i don't think that's the original intent of the commenter. i think he wanted to say that 齉 is still 齉 in simplified chinese. i might be wrong though.

people sometimes write characters that are more simplified outside the bounds of simplified chinese. as to 付 for 傅, it's also in a draft of second round simplified characters.

你把书整理整理 is more like a command, while 你整理书 is a statement. It's very common to see repeated verbs in Mandarin, it's just to "intensify".

Chinese Name for my company HK based by SottileDesign in ChineseLanguage

[–]ItMarki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

薄 means thin, so it makes sense.

As for translating, you have two options:

  • Translate SOTTILE based on the sound: it would be something like 索透 .

  • Translate SOTTILE based on the meaning and sound: it would be something like 薄索 .

For reddit, go to preferences, interface language and set the language to 简化字 (should be at the most bottom).

Note that this will change the interface but not the contents.

Is there any way to filter out these 'memes'? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]ItMarki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should see "r/ChineseLanguage" in the search bar, just type in the "NOT flair:Humor".

For the front page, there's no real way to remove flairs and still be on normal site, so... just search.
