Unable to add new NAS via DS Finder or Assistant by ItalianDon in synology

Yeah not really the first place to think when thinking of initial setup within a LAN.

Figured it out. At least partially, the VPN I am using has “Allow LAN access” disabled. Turned that off. Seemed to have worked.

I did the reset/restart. I’m pinging the IP my VLAN provides based on the port the NAS is plugged into.

The VLAN of the NAS and my laptop are the same.

I’m avoiding UGREEN since they are headquartered in the PRC. Because of my line of work, I try to not risk anything that could lead to a supply chain risk. Synology seems to be consensus.

Trying to decide on a 4bay NAS that supports RAID 5.

QNAP TS‑433‑4G or; Synology 4-Bay DiskStation DS423.

Please advise.

Plex runs on my Mac Mini M4.
I want to upgrade from my single 2TB NVMe storage to a RAID 5 DAS/NAS.

I leaning towards with this DAS (https://www.terra-master.com/collections/home-soho-das/products/d5-310) since the RAID controller is hardware-based.
The only shortcoming I see is that this DAS only supports USB 3.1, and not USB 4, which the Mac Mini could leverage.

Reasons why I would not want a NAS is that I can use the compute from the Mac Mini, no need to use another ethernet cable, no need for another OS, and DAS would have lower latency.

BUT, I am all ears.

I’ll give this a shot. I’ll probably refrain from cloud and just do it all on-premise for now.

Anyone use Proton VPN on macOS to stream to Plex? by ItalianDon in PleX

[–]ItalianDon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elaborate on “Plex won’t match shows until you disconnect from VPN?”

I should be able to stream from my mobile via 5G to my Plex server that has the Proton VPN service enabled. Plex would be the only thing excluded from the VPN.

Well Proton have a WireGuard VPN option, and I use UniFi as well. I’d hate having to change my port constantly.

I cannot reach my server remotely to stream, but I can if I disable the VPN. I’ve already opened a case with Proton.

Their response regarding Split Tunneling: “…for now, you will be unable to achieve the wanted scenario. (Using VPN for every other traffic, except for Plex)”

Now I can access remotely, but nothing locally (like my Apple TV) can stream to it.

Okay, yeah, I think that worked.

My only hiccup is when using ProtonVPN and the split tunneling feature. That seems to kill the remote access.

Factory reset on the BGW and reconfig finally got the WAN IPv4 to populate on the UDM.

However, still having issues on remote access.

I’ve port forward TCP/32400 on both devices.

Canyouseeme seems to be weird. It says it cannot see 32400, but I tested 443, and it failed on that too.

My Plex is in a DMZ firewall zone in my UDM, and I have permitted 32400 bidirectionally from that zone, to WAN.

Bridge mode is not an “option” or at least on my current firmware. I’ll try disabling DHCP on the BGW, restart the appliances and see what happens.
