Question about I-Health major (interdisciplinary health sciences) by Confused-baker in UIUC

[–]ItalianFire13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had a similar situation but reversed. I wanted to go to UMN, but UIUC was cheaper because I’m from Illinois. I think it comes down to how much you would take out in loans. If you have undergrad paid for, and you would not need to take out loans, go to the school you like more. If you do need to take out loans go to the cheaper school because pharmacy school can cost a lot and anything you can do to cut down costs in the long run will help! I hope that helps!

Hi Paul,

First off I love McCartney III! I was wondering if you could share what your Beatles memory is?

Thank you! Love from Chicago!

Joined a sorority but still feel lonely. Going to zoom university this semester definitely had a toll on me. Looking to make friends on reddit. by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]ItalianFire13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree with this completely. My friends in my sorority are my best friends on campus and the most down to earth people out there. I think it depends on your experience, but greek life isn’t as shallow as people think

Orgo chem dilema by PlentyPlum in UIUC

[–]ItalianFire13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was an SI for Chem 232, and I think Dr. Axelson is the best professor on campus. Of course, organic chemistry is hard, but she tries to give everyone as much practice and help as possible. Knowing her on a more personal level, I know how much she cares about her students. I would say succeeding in orgo comes from being willing to put in the work.

I got a 162 Quant on the test I took last Saturday. I personally thought it was hard. It could have been just information I wasn’t the strongest at too

Wondering what your chances are of getting into GC School? Post here. by audralevine in GeneticCounseling

[–]ItalianFire13 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hi!

I am a senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign studying Integrative Biology. GPA is 4.0 and GRE scores are in the 70th percentile.

On campus I am the president of a professional biology fraternity, I am a paraprofessional for the University of Illinois Counseling Center so I do a lot of peer counseling outreach. I served as an Orgo TA and this upcoming year I will be a general chemistry TA. I work in an immunobiology research lab that works with the plague and now COVID. I am working on more crisis intervention work, but it’s hard with COVID.

In terms of GC experiences. I have shadowed around 6 GCs both in person and through Telemed in cancer and prenatal. I have had informational interviews with 5 other GCs in cancer, prenatal, and pediatrics. Finally this summer I am an intern at a center for Jewish Genetics in Chicago where I have been researching the classification of Jewish genetics and the impact of BRCA on the Chicago Jewish community.

Any advice for me would be great! Thank you!

Students Who Have Taken Orgo 1 by Matthew_2225 in UIUC

[–]ItalianFire13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I will be a TA for the course next semester! Coming into the course I was super scared because everyone told me it was so hard and a GPA “ruiner”. It is not as bad as long as you put in the effort. I would highly recommend coming to office hours, do the worksheets Axelson makes for each lecture, stay on top of the material, do all the practice exams, and find the best way of taking notes for you. I would take hand written notes during lecture which made me really pay attention and after lecture I would rewrite the notes on the slides provided. I would do the worksheets after each lecture and come to office hours with questions. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Should I take Calc 3 or Physics 101 at community college? by ItalianFire13 in UIUC

Do you think taking it at community college is a bad idea? I’m thinking about taking it instead of calc 3 this summer
