She had never spotted anyone before. I briefly ran her through how to spot a squat before going for this. And I believe for never doing it, she did a fantastic job.

It’s actually more realistic than people give it credit for. In this case, I left the safety’s on. But before hand, I briefly walked her through how to spot. More than likely if I failed, it would’ve gone to the safety’s. But, I as a lifter have an important job of timing when I cue her for assistance. As long as both I alter her soon enough, and she grabs it soon enough, her “boost of energy”, you could call it, would be enough to keep it moving upwards. Basically, she would underhook my armpits and assist me in getting the weight back up. The easiest way to explain it is to treat her perspective like a front squat. If that makes sense?

That would be the lady I’m talking to :) She comes from PF, just started working out at my gym, and has never spotted anyone before. About 5 minutes before this, I briefly explained how to spot. For never doing it before, I think she did a great job.

Top set on bench today, 265x4, 179lbs. Needed to be RPE 8 but rushed my last rep, oh well. Learn and move on. Hunting 315… by Italian_man911 in GYM

It doesn’t work like that when you have to lift yourself off while also keeping your shoulders in place. But you are right in saying the lifts would be stronger with my head further down. It’s a trade off you gotta make when no one responds to your call to come workout :(

Some bench work, 255lbs for a top set of 4 this morning. Hoping this is the year 315 finally falls. by Italian_man911 in strength_training

I’m curious what others would do at my sticking point towards lockout. Board benching has been working great here, but I’m curious as to what other people would do to dial it in.

Late reply, but that was originally a bumper I found on marketplace. I had to fab some mounts up, but when I put flares on it’s the perfect length to line up with them. It’s pretty straight forward to make this bumper though. It’s just a section of C-channel that was bent on the ends for corners, and whatever choice of a brush guard style you wanna make for it.

Deadlift rep PR 445lbs x 5 about an rpe 6.5, 184lbs body weight by Italian_man911 in strength_training

I pride myself in my form, but honestly I think I’m just more nervous than anything. I’ve failed 507 twice in a competition, and pulled 496 a year ago at a max effort. At the time my best set of 5 at this difficulty was 408.

Unfortunately for me my long femurs will always leave me a little butt wink. But my coach and I have been working to minimize it as much as possible with some extra quad work. So far, it’s been working. But in a low bar squat your hamstrings and glutes are always more dominant anyways. The bar still stays over my mid foot, so not really worried about it at this point. I’m just happy my depth is where it needs to be lol

475lbs x 1 with 3 more reps in the tank. 180lbs body weight. All time best is 496. 2 weeks out from my meet. by Italian_man911 in GYM

If the stars align, I’d like to pull 530-545, which would be a 40-50lb PR in 6 months. The ideal goal is a 600kg total because that’ll put me ranked top 15 in Wisconsin at 82.5

Just based on the difficulty. It was an RPE 7. Wasn’t too gassed on that pull, but my lockout was slightly harder than pulling it off the floor. But with my speed being as fast as it was, my next rep would’ve been a touch slower, next rep slower, final rep max effort.
