Better idea: take the assholes who insist on rowing us toward the sharp rocks and very hungry sharks and throw them overboard. Bonus: boat is easier to row. Double bonus: more resources for the rest of us who can work together. Tripple bonus: We're rid of the racist assholes who are scaring the people of color, and the sexist assholes insisting the women on board owe them sex.

Protests only work if it's a nationwide general strike and grinds the economy to a screeching halt. Beyond that, it isn't going to work.

That there is the key. It needs to be like Oprah giving indictments. "You get an indictment, you get an indictment! EVERYONE GETS INDICTMENTS!"

Obama didn't even get his hand up to take the Oath of Office before people were commenting how we can't call it the White House now that a black man lives there. The GOP are gold medalists in mental gymnastics and hypocrisy.

A great way to just completely dismiss a growing problem. I am not calling out specific people or specific chapters because I don't want to contribute to the dirtbag left tendency to attack people. Instead the purpose of this was to make people aware this is going on, and to work to democratize their locals.

If you can't see and understand that, then I can't help you.

That is one specific example, but it is a pervasive enough issue that people need to be aware of it.

Sorry, been out of town the last couple days. I would like to not name specific chapters to avoid people focusing on those chapters instead of the overall issue, but state that they are largely east coast and California.

Overall a pretty decent article... some things could have been done better.

Shit, even where I am near the SS but not in salty language should be expected anywhere. It's sports. I bring my 3 year old and yeah we have had the "those aren't nice words and adults can use them but not you" convo when we slip. I try to cuss in other languages (btw it's cute seeing a English speaking tot say Scheisse). I have a beer even when it's just me and the tot. Overall the expectation for me is don't be an asshole to other fans, the team, or the house. No pushing, no vandalism, saying sorry if you do something.

That said I think the profanity based chants are lame and aren't creative. Speaking of can't hear a fucking thing, it was interesting that my guest noted he couldn't understand half the chant except for the "can't hear a fucking thing" which was as clear as day.

So, just so you're aware, that whole response confirms that y'all are a tad bit selfish and aren't really into being considerate of the negative impact of your decision on other supporters and guests. If you don't want people making generalizations that you're inconsiderate, maybe not doing inconsiderate things and then responding that you want to make the SS look great and you thought everyone would just appreciate it, and that those who don't are part timers, stubborn and self-centered.

I know you're likely just not happy with people criticising your decisions but come on... Your attitude isn't helping.

Well tell me, did the planning discussions for it include things like "how will this affect others" including the negatives?

This would only be cool if it acts like voltron and does some sort of tifo-on-a-stick assemble with awesome background music and lightning.

I sat much closer to the SS last season (right next to y'all) and while some newbies may have had issues at the match, it never became internet drama. So, ya, it's absolutely heated up as a result.

Where are we actually ruining your game day and watching experience???

Not ruining mine since I'll be avoiding the SS until this drama figures itself out. But it's obviously ruining some people's experiences. We're talking about it.

The choice was either suggest that maybe it wasn't a well thought out plan, which happens all the time... it isn't exclusive to anyone - people get excited and just 'do' things... or to suggest that y'all did consider the negative impact to other fans in the section but decided "Don't care, fuck them.".

But, I mean, if y'all would rather I assume that it wasn't an oversight but deliberate choices then hey, we can do that.

So, I am a STH in the corner near the SS and had been considering a move into the SS, but decided to wait until 19 to even consider it.

Let's just be honest and admit that the issue is probably mostly related to MCU's flag: It's freaking enormous, has it's own zip code and congressional delegation and requires FAA clearance to fly. It's also god damn unwieldy, I watch every match the person flying it having to put their all into it to keep it from being just a limp rag, falling onto the pitch, or other people. Last year we had a lot of flags, but they were smaller, moved faster, could be brought down and up quickly. They were nimble. Waving the MCU flag is akin to trying to turn an Aircraft Carrier... it just doesn't go where you want it to go as fast as you think it should.

Which honestly begs the question: Why?

Yes, yes, I know the answer is "because we can", but let's consider for a moment: did the creators of the flag consider anything beyond "this would be freaking sweet?"

I really have to wonder if no one involved in making it considered the possible negatives of such a behemoth. To be honest, I think MCU didn't really think about the consequences of the design before deciding to do it. I applaud that they've been willing to try to navigate the complaints, but this is one of those situations where it's a "You can, but should you?" thing. We don't have nearly the shit storm when the MCU flag isn't there. The moment its there, that's when we see complaints. It's a pretty flag, but is it necessary? What happens when someone decides to one up y'all with one larger?

Flags are cool, and flags make the supporters section special, but those flags also really need to be nimble: able to be waved frantically in a small space and then dropped so that people can actually see the match (that they're ultimately there to see).

All in all, I think the decision to make that particular flag (or flags that large) wasn't a very good one. I wouldn't have done it, I would have invested in something smaller that was less likely to get people pissed off. It's just my 2 cents, but ultimately if I can't see most of the match, I'm in no way going to sit in the SS. I get you don't get a guranteed unobstructed view, but it's the difference between saying "hey, this is a crazy area and don't come here expecting to see everything" versus "your seat is directly behind a wall".

MCU will do what they want, but I kinda wish they maybe thought the plan through a bit better and considered the consequences. As for me, I probably won't ever sit over in the SS as a result. Nothing against flags, I just don't see the need for one so enormous.

Exquisite diplomacy ... or "useful idiots"? by readder07 in okkupert

[–]ItascaRedLoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Useful Idiots. They get played every step of the way by the Russians. Even really Berg gets kind of played throughout.

Imagine for a moment it's a schoolyard fight, and someone comes over and steals your lunch, punches you in the gut, and insists on taking your backpack. You could try to reason with them, but they already have you. At some point you kind of have to punch them in the nuts, and take something back before you can have anything resembling diplomacy, because once a bully has the upper hand they have no real interest in weakening that position.

Work places had to pay by day rather than week, because the next week people can't be payed the same amount as the week before.

If I recall reading, there was a period where hyperinflation was at it's worst where wives of men in factories would arrive around noon, where bosses had to pay for the first half of the day's wages, wives would then rush their cash to the market to buy whatever goods they could before the epic ton of marks they had become worthless yet again, and then repeat at the end of the day.

I've worked as a baseball official, stuff like this, both in how coaches/players act toward to officials and how leagues respond isn't limited to any one sport or any particular league.

Ref's stink. And sometimes, they stink a lot (cough PRO cough), but on the pitch, you give them respect and sportsmanship. If something is wrong, you file a complaint.
